How long do you night feeds take?

How are you winding them?

My son tends to not feed for long (10mins max at a time) but then does wake up a few times so wondering if I need to try and extend these. When I have done though it doesn't seem to decrease the wake ups so I am not convinced

Do you take their sleeping bag off (if you use one) to wind them?

Thanks.

Hi @tulipsunday my baby is 6 months but this wasn't too long ago!
Is baby falling asleep during the feed? Or just stopping?

We used to keep sleeping bag on
Nappy change and a feed. Could be about 20/30 minutes ...
sat up and pat back to wind
Settle back down

😊😊

Thanks @boymama2023 he often will fall asleep or sometimes seems to have wind and start wriggling around and after that doesn't seem to want to feed again.

He is three months tomorrow and know the regression is on the horizon so wondering if I need to improve feeds, winding, start working on self settling in cot.. ahh 😆

@tulipsunday
I would try to keep my boy awake to ensure a full feed, just gentle like rubbing his feet. You don't want them to just wake for a snack really....

If they're struggling with wind, I would just try and keep them upright during and after the feed 😊

We didn't have a 4 month one, not that we noticed but have been having one around 6 months. I would suggest working on self setting or whatever works for your family to prepare for it!
My boy doesn't wake for a feed in the night but does wake often and I wish I had started working on SS earlier!

One thing I did was to change their nappy before a feed, so they’re properly awake for it.

Thank you both some good tips. Yes think I will try and work on some self-settling sooner rather than later and hopefully will reduce the wake ups.

Night feeds take about 10-15 mins and mostly takes a full feed in this time. He will still wake up a few times in the night as will get hungry again, but I think this is developmentally normal. How much is yours drinking? Are they falling asleep after 10 mins and not finishing? I find stroking his jaw encourages sucking even if sleepy so he will take more. Feeds used to take an hour(!!!!) when smaller and he kept falling asleep about a millions times but I changed the teat size and has been better since. I also always change the nappy before a feed and not after as this seems to wake him up properly then he's awake for ages! Also wouldn't remove the sleeping bag to burp. Just rub/pat his back with it still on.

Thank you @paristotokyo think changing the nappy before is a good idea. Will try the jaw stroking too. Yes he will sometimes just fall asleep after the quick feed and sometimes just get restless and seem like he has wind and then after being winded not want to feed more
