3yo with a temp. Sleep?

3yo super snotty with temp in the high 38s. Coming down with Calpol/ibuprofen timed properly so just hoping he’ll manage to ride out whatever is going on 🤞🏼

Dont (luckily!) have much experience with fevers etc. Where is safest for him to sleep? In his own room as normal and check on him regularly? Or in our bed (with one parent on the sofa for the night?) so he’s closer?
If in our bed he tends to cuddle right in which I can’t imagine being good for his temp?

Help a clueless parent please 😬

I am not the best for advice as I am over protective helicopter parent 😂

It is scary at times being a parent and I would always put my poorly child in bed with me and kick my husband out of the bed. Dress your child in light clothing, keep administering Calpol to help keep the temp under control. Offering water/fluids to keep her hydrated. Cover them with a sheet or blanket, not a heavy duvet. Lukewarm sponge bath can help too but if they don't want to get in the bath then just use a cloth to mop their head and chest. At least in your bed you can keep an eye on their temperature. Hopefully by the morning your child will feel lots better and the temperature improved. Good luck!

With a temp less than 39, and coming down with calpol I'd be fine putting them in their own bed. Especially if they're snotty so it seems like it's just a cold. It wouldn't worry me, and I wouldn't have safety concerns.

However, if they're uncomfortable and it's making them clingy, and they will sleep better with you then put them in your bed if it means that overall everyone will have a better night of sleep.

In their own bed you can obviously check on them but if they have a temp whilst asleep you don’t need to wake to give the calpol, if they wake up and unhappy then give it but a temperature is the body’s reaction to fighting infection so if sleeping away happily your best to leave them x

Mine always go in own beds, summer pj top at most, light blanket (cover of the duvet maybe?) to avoid overheating under a duvet. I usually check around thr time calpol would be wearing off and give more if necessary x

I would have him in the bed with me if he has a fever. I'd want to keep a close check on him during the night, that's just my view.

In their own bed. Extra body heat from mum wouldn't help and you also need to rest to look after them. However do whatever you feel is necessary for your baby ❤️

This is how we've always approached it too with our two as well. Although they were both in our bedroom until they were 16m and 18m respectively so when they were super tiny we did have them closer.

Thanks all. Went with our bed in the end. Very restless night for us 😴 temp back in the 38s this morning after being 37.1-37.6 most of the night and now complaining of a sore mouth 😔
Irs horrible when they feel unwell 😔

Ah, do they have hand foot and mouth? They usually get sores in their mouth from that which are really painful. Both my kids had it 3 times each between the ages of about 1 and 2.

Hope your little one is soon better.
