4 month old feeding

My youngest is 4 months, and is now on the 91st centile for weight and 50th for length.

This has surprised us all because our first was born on the 6th and is only now on the 25th centile age 4! My first was formula fed and the youngest is exclusively breast fed.

When I had him weighed, they said he is just within normal limits but usually if they jump a certain amount then you should feed them less, but they did say that supposedly you can’t overfeed a breastfed baby, so who knows!

As this is my first time breastfeeding I am curious to know if maybe I’m going wrong?

Basically, every time he is unsettled I stick him on the boob. Every time he wakes in the night (every 2 hours usually) I stick him on the boob. He rarely refuses, unless he’s fed within the hour.

Is this normal? The thought of doing bouncing tours around the house instead is not ideal, but maybe he is just taking too much? What do you do?

You're right to question what you've been told. BF babies often gain weight more rapidly than their FF peers in the first 2 to 3 months. It is not an indication that there is something wrong, that feeds need to be limited or that they will grow up to be a larger adult.

Have a read of I had him weighed, they said he is just within normal limits but usually if they jump a certain amount then you should feed them less, but they did say that supposedly you can’t overfeed a breastfed baby, so who knows! this from Kellymom Flowers
