I live in a flat so don’t have stairs; I had taken my little one to a friends house and loads of children there. He was playing on the stairs which is carpeted he slipped and fell down a few stairs and bumped his head at the end he cried and was closing his eyes later on he was okay but just wanted to close eyes and said his head hurt but was talking: he slept for 10 mins and then woke up in the car and is speaking properly now and has drank milk aswell but is just saying he’s sleepy. He also said now his head doesn’t hurt. I am just a worried mum lol.

do I need to be worried or he seems okay?

You need to take him to A&E and get him checked for concussion if he was very sleepy. Concussion can also appear upto a week after the head injury

Mygardenisaswamp · 13/04/2024 21:37

If he was sleepy at the time he needs to be checked. I'm not surprised he's sleepy now though as it's late?

CadyEastman · 13/04/2024 21:37

If he's sleepy he definitely needs checking out.

Dreamymama · 13/04/2024 21:38

It was his bedtime at the time he fell if that makes sense. He slept like 30 mins after the fall though. He has now woken up and watching cartoon and walked back from the car to the flat which is like a 2 min walk and he’s talking fine aswell

He is sleepy now because it is his bedtime if that makes sense

I don’t mean to be unkind but why are you asking this on here? You said your child felt sleepy after the fall and fell asleep for a short time which should have been a red flag for you since your child is 4. Take him to the hospital to get him checked by a doctor.

CadyEastman · 13/04/2024 21:40

Have a read of this on head injuries and concussions.

Singleandproud · 13/04/2024 21:40

Why post on here if you don't want to take the advice? Fatigue, sensitive to light/closing eyes are both symptoms of concussion.

You say he 'slipped down a few carpeted stairs and bumped his head' - so not a massive fall
He was sleepy after the fall - fairly normal for a child
Since then he has been well with no concerning symptoms.
If you're concerned you can call 111 for an assessment

A&E I'm afraid. You can't take a chance with a potential head injury.

For those saying why won't she take your advice

Frankly it's because much of the advice here is absolute rubbish.

I would advise seeking medical assessment or using NHS resources rather than 'what someone on the web said'

purplediscoblue · 13/04/2024 21:49

@hagchic

they are asking why she won’t take the advice she’s asking for and why come on here in the first place if she’s just going to tell herself out of getting her child medical advice because that’s all she is doing. She came on here clearly hoping for everyone to tell her he will be fine. Which I guess he will be but if he wasn’t sleepy before he fell and was after he fell whether it was his bedtime or not she should have got him checked or at least rang 111. But here she is shutting down the comments telling her to seek medical advice because he’s sleepy as it’s bed time but she don’t mention how he was prior to the fall.

I've been a parent for nearly 26 years. My eldest hit her head after a fall and had a fit. I took her to hospital. My youngest hit his head hard in a fall down the stairs, he immediately fell asleep. I took him to hospital. You don't fuck around with concussion or head injury because you cannot see a bleed if it's happening.

hagchic · 13/04/2024 21:52

@Dreamymama Specific advice here about sleeping ;

Can I let my baby or child go to sleep after a head injury?Yes, you can let them sleep if it is their normal time to sleep and they are not showing signs of a serious head injury.
If they seem unusually drowsy, they may have a serious head injury and you should seek urgent medical attention.

She described that her child was immediately sleepy, fairly normal - then the child woke and continued to play and act as normal.

Whilst people may have their own personal experiences, that is all they are and it would be much safer for people to seek medical advice, which is readily and freely available from NHS sites or 111.

Dreamymama · 14/04/2024 00:12

I didn’t run away from any advice. People are quick to judge.

I just wanted some advice as to what to do. I managed to call 111 who said he should get checked out. I took him a&e and they said he’s all fine and now back home. :)

Wow must have been super quick at A&E. I have been on a Saturday night in the past and was there for hours. Glad your son is ok though OP.

Dreamymama · 14/04/2024 15:09
