We have a 14 month old who is teething. Ive just noticed she has chewed the side off her cot and the white paint has come off the surface, im so worried its toxic and no idea how to check. Its a white furniture set from Mama and Papas but cant see anything on their website regarding the paint finish? Surely it would have to be non toxic not sure what to do

Big deep breath! It’s fine, the only paint you’d have to worry about is lead paint and I promise they don’t use that anymore.

Are you very anxious usually? Is it something you feel you could talk to your GP about?

They do not use lead paint on children’s furniture anymore, you would only need to worry if it was an old old piece of furniture. Cot from mamma and pappas will be fine, you don’t need to worry.

Yes unfortunately ive suffered from anxiety since my first was born, I'm getting CBT at the moment but I would think her ingesting paint is something to be anxious about

According to this, as long as it was not made before 1973, the paint will be non-toxic:

My little one did this also when she was a baby, she was fine!

Kids will put anything and everything into their mouths, even when you're watching them like a hawk! (I know this from experience), but trust your gut, you'll know if there's something wrong with your baby.

Hope this helps a bit! X

Thank you, this is helpful! Yes it was definitely made after 1973!

I wouldn’t worry OP, your baby and tens of thousands of others! I chewed my cot when I was a baby (teeth marks in it on photos!) and I’m still here to tell the tale. They’ve got to meet certain safety standards these days so none of it would be toxic. Xx
