Travelling with a baby

Going on holiday with a baby in a couple of months, she’ll be 6 months at the time of travel. A wedding in rural Italy and we’ll be spending some time in a couple of cities too. It has never occurred to me until now that we will need a car seat for taxis. What do people do, take their own car seat? Buy a cheap one for travel like we do with a buggy? Thanks in advance.

Generally taxis are exempt from needing car seats.

I would take my own so long as I can belt fit it and it’ll also be really handy if it can go on the pram base to save lugging it about.

No car seat in a taxi I would only do in central london with the black cabs where the baby can stay strapped into the pram, like on the bus, and you’ve never going to go more than 20mph, probably more like 10. Anything that involves a normal car, twisty rural roads or motorways just isn’t worth the risk IMO no matter whether or not it’s legal.

If you'll only need the car seat for travel to/from the rural wedding destination, personally I'd book transport that will provide a car seat. This should be easy to arrange through a private transfer company.

For visiting cities, I've never taken a taxi - just walk or use public transport. I wouldn't want to lug a car seat around on holiday with me if we weren't hiring a car.

Unless you are renting a car I would just stick to buses/trains. If you need a taxi to the rural location, check in advance if they can provide a seat
