Dry nappies when ill

My daughter has an 8 month old baby who has been ill for a few days with a chest infection. His nappies seem to have been quite dry since being ill. He saw the doctor today who said because he is producing tears when he cries, he isn't dehydrated. We are getting concerned though as tonight, despite drinking water and milk, his nappy still seems very dry. Is it normal for an unwell baby to have dry nappies or should we be concerned?

I would give 111 a call and discuss with them, fewer wet nappies is something that is a concern ❤️

As a general guide you should expect your baby to produce 6-8 wet heavy nappies per day (NHS website)

Hi, I think you really need to get the baby seen again. Dry nappies is definitely a cause for concern and I'd be worried that your GP suggested otherwise. X

Thank you both, we will definitely ring 111 now and see what they say.

In the meantime, keep an eye on his fingers, toes and lips. If any of them start to look blue, he needs to go to A&E.

We will do, thank you so much.

Agree with this. Also keep an eye on his soft spot, it shouldn't be sunken in (dehydration) or bulging (infection). Hope baby is okay x

I didn't realise this, thank you so much. I'll get mum to check.
