4 month old constipation.

My 4 month old is suffering with constipation. Since the 1st April she has had three bowel movements. The first on Thursday 4th she had to strain a lot and it was only two tiny pebble sized bits that she passed. She went the next day, this time a firm large piece (a little bit smaller than a Creme Egg). When she passed this she screamed, I can imaging it was incredibly painful to pass. She then went to the toilet again yesterday and it was the exact same. Both times she has strained so much and the poo is very firm when I have felt it through the nappy. She is formula feed and from birth it is not uncommon for her to go a few days between opening her bowels. But she is really struggling to go recently and the texture is more of a concern of mine as it has not eased. I’ve tried some cooled boiled water, this just came straight back up and do tummy massages and bicycle legs everyday. Is there anything else I could do to help her or is my only solution now to see the GP?

Hi.
sorry to hear this hope you and baby are ok?
my little one had this from just 4 weeks old he’s now 6 months and always have suffered with constipation🤦🏻‍♀️ I found what helped my baby was a nice warm bath after I had done some belly and leg exercises.
tummy time used to help also I’m not sure why but after 30 mins he would go toilet.
also if your little one is now being weaned on 4 month baby food prunes are brilliant for this!
I would give my baby cook boiled water evey 2 hours also and this helped he was pooing daily with no struggle.

I found out the milk he was on SMA wasn’t the best for him as soon as I switched to aptimil he is now never consipated and goes 2 times a day
docotors wouldn’t give me nothing for medication they tend to wait untill 4-5 years old allthough your doctors may be different.

xx
