Multiple bouts of bronchiolitis

Hi all. My almost 8 month old is currently on his fourth bout of bronchiolitis. First two times at 3 and 4 months were tough and we took him to A&E but he only needed suction to clear mucus in his nose. Last time was 3 and a half weeks ago and he got very sick very quickly, and we ended up in hospital for 3 days on a bit of oxygen and the optiflow machine. He started getting a cold on Saturday, but in the night last night it seemed to turn into the dreaded bronch. He is actually not too bad, still smiling and playing, and coughing a lot more than last time - last time it seemed to leap into bronch at the meerest sight of snot. He has had one normal cold in between so we know he can have a cold that doesn't turn into this, but we are really worried. During our last stay at hospital I asked every single doctor we saw if we need to investigate or worry, and they all said it he was just unlucky and that the first two times he hadn't really been that sick with it (though it felt pretty shit for us!) I'm wondering if I need to ask the GP to escalate.

I wonder if anyone has any experience with this? Did it resolve for your child? I asked one A&E doctor about the possibility of asthma and he said the two weren't related but I've read other stories on here that seem to suggest there is a link

Hi, my youngest was prone to bronchiolitis and was hospitalised with it 4 times up to the age of 18 months on oxygen each time. They eventually prescribed her with a brown and blue inhaler which has made all the difference, since the colds don’t seem to progress to bronchiolitis now.

They did say as she got older she would grow out of it and I know once they’ve had it they are more prone to keep getting it unfortunately.

@notasillysausage thank you so much for your response. I'm so glad to hear that this worked for her. Yes I seem to see that from other posts that an inhaler can make all the difference. I'm going to ask my GP I think, though I guess his age might make it a bit tricky to give it. Thanks again this is very reassuring

They give you a spacer to give the inhaler usually which does make it much easier to give. I hope your little one is on the mend soon.
