Car seat help for escapee toddler

My 2 year old DD has learned how to unbutton her car seat and she does it randomly and frequently, despite stopping the car to fix it and the usual bribery. I've had to start squeezing in the middle between her and ds to prevent button pressing, which is not at all comfortable. We have a long journey coming up with lots of motorway driving and we won't be able to stop to fix this. Please - has anyone else had an escapee toddler?! Ds used to get his arms out, but never managed to press the button. Any advice very, very welcome.

We told our ds that if they undid their seatbelts we would go home. We then planned exciting but missable activities. If they undid their seatbelts we would stop the car, put them back in then turned round and went home.

Oh God I had one of these. It was infuriating. I just had to pull over asap, coax her back into seat, get the restraint tight and get a mirror to help me watch her from all angles. She really was something else. She turned out to be a quick-witted teen. Someone will have better advice as I was totally crap and winged it through the tot years.

Can you buckle her in, then put a coat on her back to front, somehow fastening it up behind her? Cutting some slots in the coat for the straps? A bit of lateral thinking, and destroying an old garment, might be what's called for here.

My DC is still too young to be able to unlock the belt, but if i had a similar situation one weird solution is to tie a complicated tie from both sides of belt that you only can easily release
Or like an easy flexible lock that can go all the way from both sides I don't know if wgat am saying makes sense

One of my sons (25 yo) used to do this , on long journeys , I mean hundreds of miles ,he thought it was funny easy way to get attention .I thought design would have worked something out by now . I used to climb over (on motorway) or pull over 😧.

You can get a seatbelt buckle car lock that can be clipped on, or a clamp type lock that can go over the straps- we’ve also got a belt unbuckling toddler and it’s been a lifesaver!

Try sticking a piece of velcro, the prickly side, on the buckle button. Sometimes that is enough to put them off.

I had this- ended up getting a new car seat one of the Cybex Pallas ones with the cushion rather than any buckle. It's great no more escaping and my toddler loves it
