Baby hates the pushchair

My 4 month old baby absolutely hates his pushchair with a fiery passion Confused He screams blue murder in it. The screams get worse towards nap time as he also really struggles to 'nap on the go', he can't just nod off in the push chair, he will cry and cry and I'll constantly put his dummy back in before he finally goes to sleep but this can take up to an hour sometimes (even if I know he is overdue a nap) I've tried white noise in the push chair, dummy, snooze shade, his fave comforter, checked the straps aren't too loose or too tight and nothing is working. It's making it really hard for me to get out the house as I can't deal with the screams. Has anyone else had anything similar?

Mine hated the pram at this point. I just used a sling! Much more convenient. He's OK in his pushchair now he's older and can sit more upright but I still use the sling 9 times out of 10. Is that an option for you?

I should have mentioned, he's not much of a fan of the carrier either 😵‍💫 well, he doesn't like to be parent facing and think he might be too young to be outwards facing at this stage. I'm so stuck and it's really getting me down. Thank you for replying

Is it a lay down bassinet or a sit up seat? At this age mine disliked the bassinet most of the time but as soon as she was old enough to hold herself up comfortably in the pram seat and have a good look around at everything she was much happier.

Oh no I'm sorry! Hopefully it will get better with time when he can sit up better. Fingers crossed someone will be along with a better tip.

I use to let mine lye tummy down in the bassinet and then flip him over if he went to sleep.
Also a ring sling in a hip carry might work rather than facing in or out in a baby carrier. They aren't quite as hands free as a baby carrier but get the job done.

Mine weren't keen on either. I used a Hippychick hipseat - could have them facing either way depending on their interest levels. Gave me a free hand to push the pushchair - would use it carry all my baby stuff & transfer them if they fell asleep. Once they could toddle, we swapped to a granny trolley (for all the coats, drinks, coats, etc plus any shopping) and just the hipseat. Just wear it high enough & tight enough.

They loved being up at people's eye height & interacting with people out & about. (A wheelchair using friend pointed how boring / how easily ignored both she & those in pushchairs get.)

Which sort of pram is he in? My youngest hated the flat one. We had to use her car seat which slotted in to the pram.

They do grow out of being so fussy eventually (which I appreciate isn't helpful right now).

If they're over tired at the age then it's so much harder. Have you looked into wake windows? Saved me with my first and did it immediately with my second and he's an amazing sleeper. Thirds on the way and I'll be doing the same

Funny you should say that...he tolerates being in his car seat (attached to the pushchair frame) alot better, but I worry about him being in that for long periods of time, especially if we want go out for the day. Thank you for your kind words

He's in the Nuna Mixx Next and is in the pushchair seat (laying flat) as he hated the bassinet, so we thought this would solve all of our problems... sadly not!

Yes I follow wake windows (I'm a bit obsessed with them as a FTM 🙈) but he goes waaaay past them when he's in the pushchair as he needs to be touching me to fall asleep, so so tough.

Thank you for your suggestion, I'll look into these 🤞🏻

I bet it the lying flat. I can only change the seat position to flat once mine is asleep. Not helpful for now but soon they’ll be a lot sturdier and better able to sit with the seat up so they can look around.

Thank you so much, I'll look into the hip seat. We moved on from the bassinet (as he hated this too) and use the pushchair seat laying flat for now (it's on a slight incline, more than the bassinet) but he's still so unhappy in it. I even trialled the pushchair seat up a little higher, although I wouldn't want to do this for long due to his age, and he still screamed. I'm wondering if he's just uncomfy in it Confused

Thanks @YellowHatt I'm counting down until he can be upright in it more often, I'm so fed up of being stuck in the house. Would love to be out and about with him showing him the world 😞

My daughter hated the pram at 4 months. I didn't have a car so I had to walk everywhere. She was only marginally better in the sling but needs must. Around 5 months she would occasionally be happy in the pram and by 5.5 months she only had a good nap in the pram but it was reliant on her going to sleep quickly and me not pausing. Once she was awake she screamed. Around 8 months she was very happy in the pram and we continued with pram naps until she stopped napping at 3

Hedgehog23 · 08/04/2024 09:10

Re th sling, I had to get my youngest used to it with small amount of time in it and building up (over maybe a week). Though the biggest change was realising he was happy when I was moving but not if I was relatively still so it worked out the house but no in it.

my kids were mostly not fans of the pram either though would sleep in it.

good luck.

Elisabeth3468 · 08/04/2024 09:21

Mine always hated the pram and the car. I had to move him to the more upright seat at 11 weeks and he was so bad then but wasn't great.
Hes 2 now and honestly still won't be in the pram long 😅

IfIwasrude · 08/04/2024 09:25

One of mine was furious at only three weeks if the cover on the pram was up. He liked to see the sky.
