My little girl loves the Mog stories by Judith Kerr. I remember them from my childhood and she now has a soft toy Mog and asks for the audio books regularly too. The Tiger who came to Tea is good too.

She enjoys lots of Julia Donaldson too. She turned 3 not long ago and enjoys reciting them back to us now. The Gruffalo and Gruffalo's Child and Room on the Broom are favourites here.

Each Peach Pear Plum is fun too, she enjoys spotting all the characters in the pictures. And This is Owl by Libby Walden & Jacqui Lee is fun - you have to tap/flap/wave etc to pretend you're interacting with the owl.

We like the "10 little.." ones - 10 little dinosaurs, 10 little princesses, 10 little aliens etc. I think we have them all.

Judith Kerr
Julia Donaldson
Old bear stories
Richard Scarry
Jill Murphy
Lynley Dodd

My son also loves non-fiction books.

Second Julia Donaldson and Ten Little series. My 2 year old loves lift the flap and interactive books as well at the moment, so Spot The Dog, Dear Zoo, Tales From Acorn Wood series and Axel Scheffler has done a series of books with all interactive bits.

The library is also a great place to find new books.

All the Alfie books. They’re so relatable for little ones.

Cuwins · 07/04/2024 08:15

My 2 year old daughters current favourite is the Alfie and Annie rose story book which I remember from when I was a child in late 80's! She also loves Mog and hairy mclary. Anything with a 'mummy, daddy, baby' is a hit- Alice Melvins books are popular for this reason.

ShangPie · 07/04/2024 08:17

Lucy Cousins books were always a hit

Peck Peck Peck (it has holes in the book to play with)
A Busy Day for Birds
Little Fish (various colour / counting etc)

He also enjoyed the baby series by Leslie Patricelli - lots of funny and simple introductions to behaviour here like No No Yes Yes, Yummy Yucky, Potty, Huggy Kissy, etc

Agree with PP on trying new books at a local library. Ours is great for kids and has a good selection. It will order books in from other libraries within the county, is much less tight with late fines for kids books and has a decent program of activities too.

If you want to buy, look at World of Books - it’s a secondhand version of Amazon and much much cheaper!

On the subject of where to buy books I highly recommend
booksforbugs.co.uk
Most books £2.99, excellent quick service and helping a small family business

Mine loved the Hairy Maclary series by Lynley Dodd at that age.

Bernadinetta · 07/04/2024 08:26

Tales from the Acorn Wood series

Mine loved some of the Julia Donaldson ones - she was quite specific about which though, mostly Room on the Broom and Monkey Puzzle, plus A Squash and a Squeeze. Also her Acorn Wood ones.

Jill Murphy - Peace at Last and Whatever Next.

Each Peach Pear Plum and Peepo - Janet and Allan Ahlberg

Second the Lucy Cousins ones, A Busy Day for Birds is great and she also really liked the Maisy books

Dinosaur Roar a big favourite too.

Possibly more around 2 but she was obsessed with this series and we had every single one out from the library, she’d spend ages looking at them and talking about the pictures - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Whos-Wearing-Usborne-Baby-Books/dp/1474941109/ref=pd_aw_sim_p0?pd_rd_w=2xtWF&content-id=amzn1.sym.7b965106-93f7-4e2a-854f-dca7a1494f24&pf_rd_p=7b965106-93f7-4e2a-854f-dca7a1494f24&pf_rd_r=WW9F5M1EP82H4K1K20Q4&pd_rd_wg=DCDC1&pd_rd_r=b43a4e1a-34ee-4826-9397-b2864f52d33d&pd_rd_i=1474941109

And when she got a bit closer to 3 she loved the ‘Pants’ books especially Animal Pants.

The usborne ‘peep inside’ books are great, they also do some called things like ‘is that you little dinosaur/ little rabbit’ etc and she loved those.

Definitely worth joining your local library if you can!

@Yourethebeerthief
Your welcome. It's a great website but not good for my wallet!

cloudjumper · 07/04/2024 08:44

The books by Oliver Jeffers are lovely, even us adults love them.

caringcarer · 07/04/2024 09:21

My DD loved the Katie Morag books. In particular Katie Morag and the Tiresome Ted. My DS1 loved the James Herriot books. His favourite was Only One Woof and he loved The Xmas Day Kitten. My youngest DS2 loved the Thomas the Tank Engine books. There are so many of them.

Lottie917 · 07/04/2024 10:47

My DS loves Julia Donaldson books, the Tom Fletcher interactive books: 'There's a Monster in your book...' series, Hey Duggee books and Thomas & Friends Books.

How to hide a lion is nice.

UnravellingTheWorld · 07/04/2024 17:01

The Large family series is really popular on our house! It's about a family of elephants who do generic family things. I've seen some of them in the 10 for £10 deal in the Works

Superscientist · 07/04/2024 19:34

Winnie and Wilbur
There's a X in your book
Small people big lives series (might not be exact name)
Julia Donaldson
Morag hoad.

We go to the library to find new book series and then buy the favourites. According to the RRP of the books our library tells us we saved £500 last year!
