23 month old suddenly leaking out of cloth nappies - any ideas?

DS is 23 months and has worn Fluffles from birth - he's in size 2 ones now with a Tots Bots wrap (used to use Motherease wraps but was lured away by the star design in Tots Bots!)

He's never had any problems with them before but has suddenly starting leaking out of the leg holes getting a wet bottom of his vest and trousers. It's not linked to the change of wrap as it started happening before we changed to Tots Bots, and we thought maybe it was happening because the Motherease were too small so we bought new ones.

I thought maybe the size 2 Fluffles were too small but they don't make them any bigger than size 2 and he's not a big boy - between 9th and 25th percentiles, so surely the size 2 should be ok for a while? Have tried stuffing with a booster but it's still happening.

Anyone else had this experience? Is he suddenly weeing in a different direction? Do we just need to change him more often? It's never happened before even when we were Bad Parents and forgot to change him for a while, so I'm a bit mystified.

Hmm I would have said the tots wrap was the culprit cos mine ALWAYS leak around the legs.
If not the wrap, maybe he has started doing a huge wee rather than lots of little ones so it floods the nappy and escapes before the nappy has a chance to soak it up?

It definitely started before we got the Tots wraps, but it's got worse since we got them. They're not as good as Motherease, are they? I was thinking of writing to them and seeing if I could return them, but they're quite used now..

I wouldn't mind so much but changing vests all the time is a hassle, and the nursery have started complaining.

But you might be right about the big wee - it's around this age they start being able to hold it, isn't it? We have thought of potty training but he's refusing to even sit on the potty at the moment, so it's going to have to wait a bit.

What type of booster did you use?

I use a folded over muslin at the front for night time with fluffle size 2s with the supplied booster folded over twice at the front. DS is only 11 mo and this takes him all the way thru the night.

Or a different material for an extra booster like bamboo may work if used with the fluffle booster as it would hold extra liquid.

Also I use wool wraps and covers - have you thought about these as they tend to soak up a bit too and are less hassle than they first seem. Couldn't get the PUL wraps to work, but wool seems to cope with ds as he's a 'heavy wetter'.

I used a terry towelling booster with a fleece top, tucked into the Fluffle pocket - looks like a big sanitary towel, plus the Fluffle booster folded at the front.

He seems to have become a heavy wetter all of a sudden - bit strange!

haven't tried the wool wraps - will look into it - thank you

Tots wraps - go back to motherease

We had this problem with our son when he was about a year and a half. Couldn't figure it out at all for a week or so, then I twigged. He was in terries and plastic pants.

On a cloth nappy forum I frequent someone suggested using flannels (face cloths) as temporary boosters, but they worked so well that in the end I didn't bother looking for anything else. Got about three dozen of them at Wilkinsons, 25p each and on a 3 for 2 offer. LOL!
