Compact stroller/cabin approved?

TDZ0802 · 04/04/2024 21:44

Hello!

Looking for a stroller for holiday (and hopefully daily use). Can anyone recommend one that is -

  1. Compact (preferably cabin approved) - we have very limited space in the boot and on weekends away etc have really struggled fitting everything in with the pram.
  2. Relatively sturdy as would like to get the use of it for days out, walks etc
  3. Under £200, could possibly stretch to £250

Does anyone have any they would recommend or steer clear of?

Thanks 😊

Joolz Aer, if you can still get it for £250ish. It’s the best one I’ve tried and I’ve tried most of them 😂

Second hand Babyzen YoYo if not!

The Joolz Aer is the one I like the look of most, but it’s closer to £400 now! 🫣 Had a look on marketplace etc for a YoYo but no luck as of yet!

I have a Joolz Aer and i recently checked and it fits the cabin baggage size for Jet2, not sure about other airlines. It also fits the in footwell of the car so leaves the boot free for everything else! Was about £320 when I bought it last year, it might be a bit cheaper now they joolz aer+ is out? Not sure!

We have the GB Pockit and it’s been great - folds down teeny tiny and has lasted 5 years and a lot of use no problems.

I’ve had a look but can’t find the original anywhere. The Joolz Aer is the one that seems to be most recommended so I may just end up having to splurge although given the price I’m definitely keen to hear if there’s any decent alternatives 😂 Do you use yours daily? Is it smooth to push etc? Thanks!

I’ve had a look at this and love how tiny it folds but was put off by the hood and it not reclining! Thanks!

@TDZ0802

Yes we've used it daily since DS was 8 months so almost a year now. Mostly on footpaths but copes well with off road too unless it's extremely bumpy. The frame does scratch fairly easily I've found but that's the only criticism I would have. I bought a foot rest and footmuff separately and I like that the pram folds just as neatly with them both attached.

We went with the Ergobaby metro plus deluxe. Cost £285 new so slightly higher than your top budget, can probably pick it up cheaper on fb, maybe. The plus is slightly cheaper than the deluxe. Or the older version of the metro. We did go into a shop to try the joolz, butterfly etc and I didn’t like them enough to justify the cost and I couldn’t see them second hand at the time. So I risked buying the metro new off a recommendation from a relative. I love it.

It’s not cabin approved I don’t think but is <10kg since some airlines have a limit. We took it to the plane steps and then picked it up on the carousel.

It’s a tiny bit faffy unfolding/folding vs the joolz etc but it wasn’t a deal breaker. I love it. It fits in my Clio as well with lots of space. I mostly only use it if we are going on smooth-ish paths like city walk/shopping centres/ restaurant naps/ abroad. If it’s anything more bumpy like woodland/reservoir/long walks/unknown area then we switch to a bigger pushchair.

It fully lies flat which helped for naps. My 1 yr old appears to find it comfortable. I love it.

I have been considering the metro + but didn’t know about the deluxe version - I’ll take a look, thanks! Do you think it would go ok over cobbles/slightly rougher terrain, nothing properly ‘off road’? Any you tested that you wouldn’t recommend? Have also been considering the babyjogger city tour. There’s nowhere near us that I can go to test them out unfortunately!

Following this! Looking for one ideally for a 2 year old

alpinia · 05/04/2024 15:53

If none of the new ones meet your requirements then a 2nd hand Yoyo. Bought ours new when little one was 8 months old and it has been on many a trip. Never had a problem with it on the plane and DC naps very well in it. Only criticism would be the sun shade is not super long.

Unfortunately I haven’t tested it on gravel or anything bumpier than pavement/road/bits of broken pavement. I got the impression that the travel pushchairs wouldn’t cope that well, so I just switch to the bigger pushchair (joie versatrax I picked up on fb marketplace) for that. Maybe someone else will mention how well they work though.

I did try the cybex Orfeo in the shop, including putting ds in it at 5 months old. I was tempted due to the price but it felt a bit too flimsy, the part where his legs hang over folded in a bit so I thought it wouldn’t cope well as he got bigger. The butterfly and joolz aer both seamed nice in general just too much in cost for me.

I think a few other people on here have recommended the babyjogger city before. I haven’t tried it though.

Mamas and papas airo. Fits in the overhead easily, we got it for a trip when our baby was 8m and never went back to our silvercross wave. Doesn’t feel as sturdy but no travel one will I don’t think! We do take it on dog walks etc though and had absolutely no issues with it!
