10.5 week old suddenly so unsettled

Hello!

Here for advice or to hear whether anyone else has experienced this. I have a 10.5 week old who is EBF, she’s generally been a bit colicky and seems to have Infant Dyschezia so really struggles to coordinate passing gas, and pooing takes hours!

She used to sleep in 4ish hour blocks, but now has been waking up uncomfortable at about 2 and impossible to settle back down. My main uncertainty though is what’s changed at 10 weeks to cause this - I guess I had thought the peaks would be when people say they are at 6-8 weeks! Could this just be a phase or do I need to start being proactive and looking into slow flow bottles, colief and removing dairy from my diet?

just looking for some reassurance and help working out whether this could pass or if i need to work something out!

My same age baby has regressed a lot also this past week! We were getting 2-3 hr stretches atleast part of the night but now it's more like 40-90mins max. He's also struggling to pass wind and squirms a lot which wakes him up. Will try bicycle legs and tummy massage before bedtime and see if that helps. He also reacts quite well to gripe water (we tried others and none of them worked) so will restart this with evening feeds. I'm in a group with other mums and interestingly quite a few have mentioned the same regression starting at 10 weeks so I definitely think it's a thing! Hoping we get over it soon enough.

It'll all be a phase.

Don't meddle with your diet without medical advice.

I would assume growth spurt or a desire to increase milk supply and just feed, unless a medical professional tells you otherwise (I do not include HVs here, their feeding advice is so varied it is basically random).

Thank you both! It helps to hear it’s probably just a common regression! We will also try gripe water as we’ve only tried infacol so far.

last night we got a 6h stint - I’m pretty sure it’ll have been a catch up sleep after unsettled days and nights but I’m taking the win! I also burped her more than usual from afternoon onwards so maybe that helped!

Still up squirming and straining now but at least it’s past 7 rather than 2!

How did yours sleep @paristotokyo ?

My 15 week old had his fussiest period (so far) around 10 weeks - like you we were surprised as things were supposed to be getting better! We were really vigilant with Infacol before every feed and burping both in the middle and end of feeds and that seemed to help.

It was also around this time that I spent lots of time learning his sleepy cues and trying to get him to nap at the best times to avoid overtiredness. I found when he started getting regular(ish) naps he was a lot happier generally! Depends on your personality but I found it really helpful tracking his sleep on the Huckleberry app as then you can easily see if he's getting enough sleep in each 24hr period - our boy was averaging 13hrs but when I got a bit more on it, that increased to 14hrs so I think he wasn't getting enough sleep before.

All that said, try not to obsess over sleep too much as it will drive you crazy! Your baby will sleep eventually and it's just your job to help them out.

Reflux peaks at 16 weeks and my daughters reflux and allergies really started to pick up around 9-11 weeks and by 16 weeks was totally unbearable. I started a food diary and realised she was absolutely horrendous in the days after I ate a lot of soya meat replacements. At 17 weeks I stopped soya and dairy and we managed to see a paediatrician who put her on higher dose reflux treatment and we had a big improvement.

I would keep on the look out for signs of reflux and maybe start a food and symptom diary to see if you can notice any trends. It definitely helped me when seeing the paediatrician. He said it was unlikely but agreed that the food diaries would suggest it's worth a try - she ended up with 20 food allergies!

6hr stint sounds amazing, hope it continues for you. DCs sleep has slightly improved but still not great. We did get two lots of 2 hr stretches but he does seem to need resettling lately when before he'd sleep through it and wake for a feed. I do have to burp mid feed though but he still seems really wriggly and grunting in sleep.. so not sure. I have the huckleberry app which pp has mentioned. Find it really useful to track but best not to get obsessive over it. I guess in the first year there will be lots of changes. I think we've only ever had one 4-5 hour stretch since birth which felt miraculous at the time Grin
