Help please - reflux/ colic or milk challenge

Hi, I am hoping someone can help me please sorry if this is long

my LO has been on SMA althera since 4 weeks due to suspected CMPA she is also on omoprazole for reflux

since being on the SMA althera she has been. Much more settled until tuesday when I was told by the dietitian to do the milk challenge she only had one scoop of hipp organic in one bottle at lunch time and then from 4pm was incredibly unsettled until 8.30 where she screamed until 11pm. I didn’t do the milk challenge Wednesday and yet the same thing happened

she has been struggling to get her wind up so I have been using infacol which seemed to be working until the last 2 days

she has been awake atv3.30 for a feed and wouldn’t wind after she then woke up again at 5 hysterically crying and will only settle when on me

has anyone been through similar? Could it just be normal colic or linked to the milk challenge and will come out of her eventually. It just seems a bit of a coincidence but I am so tired and stressed at seeing her so upset

any advice would be appreciated

My 4 month old has CMPA and silent reflux, he is EBF. We did the yogurt test on Saturday. 24 hours later he was screaming in pain and he was as stiff as a board again in discomfort.

The screaming stopped by Monday morning, but he's has trouble with wind and bad nappies since. I have just assumed it's just the lasting / delayed reaction from Saturdays test. I'm hoping it'll clear up in another few days. I believe that the allergy can be really tough on their tummies and it takes a while for their stomachs to heal again- apparently probiotics can help, we're trying the bio gala ones.

Hope your LO is better soon.

Thank you I really wish I’d never started the challenge she is so upset and in so much discomfort. I really don’t know what to do.

I've got CMPA and it can take two weeks to heal from a reaction, and I'm an adult.

Sounds very much like a reaction to me Flowers

@CadyEastman thank you it’s so weird as she’s ok in the day but very unsettle
from late afternoon since having it. I hope as it was only one scoop it is out of her before 2 weeks 2 nights has been bad enough 😂😭🤦🏼‍♀️

For delayed reactions it can take 3 days to see the reaction and they can be quite bad up to the 2-3 day mark if they react earlier than 3 days
My daughter reacted to me eating a beef burger in 20 minutes but the reaction peaked between 24 and 48 hours and was back to her normal at the time in a further 2-3 days.
I would count it as a fail. Lots of cuddles over the next few days and they should be back close to normal in probably 3-5 days maybe with some lingering milder symptoms for up to 2-3 weeks. You might find that the challenge exposes that the hydrolysed formula you are on isn't quite enough and an amino acid formula is needed to fully remove the dairy.

@Superscientist thank you - I can’t believe how one scoop has made her so unsettled it’s so hard as there is nothing comforting her atm

It really doesn't take a lot. The first time we did the milk ladder a crumb of biscuit the size of a grain of rice triggered 2 days of screaming!
When I was breastfeeding I had a bacon sandwich with a barely visible smear of tomato ketchup to test my daughters tomato allergy and that was enough for her to react!

You can give antihistamines for delayed allergies as well as immediate but as she is under 1 these would have to be prescribed by the GP.
