Named on school social media post

A photo of my child has been posted by school on their social media. Their full name and class is been included in the post.

I'm sure I only consented to photos when they first started school. I’ve emailed school but had no response since it is Easter holidays. No one answers in the school office.

I want this post taken down. What else can I do?

this is a safeguarding issue, and there will be a safeguarding lead contactable during the holiday, probably by email

NancyJoan · 02/04/2024 21:25

Message them on the same social media. Whoever posted it should get the notification.
And at the start of term, revoke your photo consent.

Maddy70 · 02/04/2024 21:25

Youll have to wait until someone is back in the office. When yoh sign the consent form it does usually give consent for them to be used in this way

I'm appalled! They should never mention the full child's name on social media 😱

ASighMadeOfStone · 02/04/2024 21:28

Our school mentions names if photos are used on SM, (if the context is just one child, (or a handful) who has/have won something or participated in something.
It's part of the annual consent.
When they go back ring them and withdraw your consent.

This-there'll be someone picking up emails for safeguarding stuff.

Report the post to the site it's on. Likely faster and more effective than waiting for them to return.
I'd expect a swift removal since it's a minor.

Yes I didn’t think they could do that. Photo is fine, but not personal details.

When we give consent to share photos on social media it never includes the name of any children, they cover their names up if they appear on any certificates included in photos.

It's common sense aswell as safeguarding not to share names with photos of their faces Confused

You should be able to contact the safeguarding lead during the holidays.

Cheeesus · 02/04/2024 21:32

Yes, report it directly on Facebook/Twitter etc.

That would risk the school Facebook page which is useful and a lot of people enjoy. Your kid is likely on social media behind your back anyway.

OP I run a page and have it linked to my account so if you message it I get a notification you can try that

One reported photo isn't going to get a school page closed down

I assume thr OP is talking about a primary age child, theyd be very unlikely to be on Facebook and even if they were what has that got to do with the school ignoring the OPs wishes?

Yes my child is in primary school.

I do not put them on any social media and no pictures are shared anywhere.

I was happy for them to appear on a school page. But they have been put on a post with their personal details. I don’t even do that on my own social media.

Eeek no, my school even blamk out names on certificates.

You need to speak to them about this!

user1470659997 · 05/04/2024 11:15

Update- school never came back to me (probably due to school holidays) and I emailed the CEO directly. They replied asap and pulled the post.

I will ring the headteacher once school is opened to follow up.

Thanks for all your help.
