I have to recommend this backpack!

I bought this backpack for all the things we need to take out with our toddler and I'm chuffed to bits with it so I had to share in case someone is looking for similar!

It comes in 30 or 20 litres and the 20 does us fine. My son is two and it can fit everything we need in it for a day out:

Nappies
Nappy sacks
Packet of wipes
Change of clothes
Mini sudocreme
Hand sanitiser
Emergency sticker book!
A toy
Waterproof trousers
Reins

It has two water bottles and a pocket at the bottom with a waterproof groundsheet in it. I'm going to swap it out for a bigger one we have. This would also be a fab pouch for a little change mat for younger babies.

And best of all! It has an integrated cooler compartment! I am beyond excited about that. No separate lunchbox, all the lunch, snacks and an ice pack go in the bottom compartment and if you don't need it it zips away to make more space in the rucksack.

I looove a good organised rucksack 🙌🏻

The reviews aren't great though.

Really? I bought it based on the 4.7/5 star reviews. The ones I can see on the website are great. We've been using it and think it's fantastic.

That looks rather good for an overnight "trip to London", going nowhere posh.

@Pringlesfordinner would it be suitable for a school bag for secondary eg big enough for books etc? I’m looking for a decent school bag for my son? Thanks

If your son is over the age of 11 do not get him a back pack without his input. My DS refused to take a Decathlon one I’d bought for him to school because he knew he’d be teased about it. He had an Adidas bag for a few years and he’s had a North Face one for the last 2. I balked at paying for the North Face one but to be fair, he uses it pretty much every day for school, and uses it for holidays, trips, and shopping. It still looks immaculate and he hasn’t moaned about it or asked for an upgrade once. It has at least another few years left in it and will probably only have cost me about £15 a year by the end of its life.

That 20l one looks ideal for the back of my wheelchair, thank you!

Where did you see the smaller one?

Given that your recco is sold out anyway OP I’m going to shamelessly hijack your post to say:

  1. I don’t like boring grey backpacks (sorry!)
  2. I absolutely love my Dakine 33l backpack - it’s like this but in a different print: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/115978040163?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=lEAW0_gUR2O&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=GKHOP_WtRMy&var=416118901278&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
  3. I use the above when out and about with my kids (not sure how anyone can survive with less than 30l!) but I love it so much I bought a 25l version for work which I also love love love. If you root around eBay you can find other prints though they don’t seem to have as many as when I bought mine. And grey ones if that is your thing! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/115978040165?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=lEAW0_gUR2O&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=GKHOP_WtRMy&var=416118953547&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Me neither! I bought it in the sort of plummy/burgundy colour option

And yes to 30 litre for multiple kids. We just have the one at the moment but there's no way it will do if we have another. Although by the time we decide we're ready hopefully he can carry his own little backpack and won't be in nappies anymore 🙏🏻

I love decathlon back packs!

My 3 dc have the tiny 10 litre ones that they all carry. Cheap as chips, big enough to carry their own waterproofs, lunch and water bottle. They have used them since they were toddlers and are now tweenagers/teenagers.

It's great for when we go out so I'm not like a fully laden camel!

Ah that’s good! Alas I was too late to have a nosey at the one you got, the bigger one seemed only to be in grey.
There’s a Decathlon near my husband’s home town, always a highlight to go round there when we visit!

Ugh no I couldn't buy a rucksack in grey. I have a bit of a thing for rucksacks and water bottles. Always on the hunt for the perfect ones.

I think I've finally found my dream rucksack 😍

😂 quite passionate about it

Gosh if you come anywhere near finding the perfect water bottle (doesn’t leak and can go in the dishwasher- not a lot to ask!!), please do share. I’ve never cracked that one, though finally listened to the recommendations for Sistema and they’ve been as good as anything if a little plain.

And agreed re backpacks, if you find a good un it just makes your life so much easier 😊

ION8.

Indestructible, don't leak and can go in the dishwasher.

Ah, my kids have had a few ION8s but I’ve found the lids have broken after a while 😞 I think we have one functioning one left. Nice designs though.
My daughter spent her pocket money on an Air Up and though it’s a bit big it seems pretty practical so far.

Pringlesfordinner · 04/04/2024 16:41

@BarqsHasBite

For me it needs to be super simple. Anything else just breaks after a while. My perfect water bottle is a metal one from Elephant Box. I have the small and large size and had it for years. Super sturdy.

For my toddler 🤷🏻‍♀️ They take more abuse and they're all fiddly as he's too young to have a screw top lid. I hate fiddly bits to clean.

You should have been parenting your child. Standing on chairs at a restaurant is extremely bad manners. 3 is old enough to understand he needs to sit down.

None of mine were EVER allowed to do that. It's just basic table manners, if they can't sit properly they should be in a high chair.

I have at least one student a week crying over a broken Air Up bottle.

Oh no! What tends to break? Need to warn daughter to be careful…

Jumping on to ask would it fit a travel potty in?

I got the 20 litre and it wouldn't. Maybe the 30 litre but we're not at that stage yet. A friend of mine uses a travel potty seat. Folds down to barely anything and goes on a normal toilet seat. That would certainly fit. That's what I'll be buying when the time comes.

Dont understand why people comment about the grey colour. A - other people will like it and B - the backpacks come in variety of colours anyway.

I have been using Decathlon rucksacks for 3 years, three different sizes and colours and am very happy with them.

Barrenfieldoffucks · 05/04/2024 21:06

They won't post it to the Isle of Wight annoyingly, I've bought loads of sports kit from there in the past 🙄

Greekfoodisthebest · 06/04/2024 08:04

@Pringlesfordinner The link goes through to a whole page with all different rucksacks on, all at different prices and sizes, which model and size did you buy exactly?

Greekfoodisthebest · 06/04/2024 08:20

Sorry, found the single link further down. Didn't see it the 1st time through

WandaWonder · 06/04/2024 08:38

So you're selling these?

It must be happening because the backpack sold out after posted the thread. Bit of a fail.

If anyone can find it for sale elsewhere it's a brand called Quechua and it's the one with the integrated lunch cooler at the bottom.

It's a cracking bag.
