Do you put baby in cot for naps ?

5 and a half month daughter has always napped either on me or in her bouncer , the bouncer goes down right flat . Anytime she’s fallen asleep during the day I don’t wake her, she can nap for an hour - to 2 hours
however my friend was saying all her babies naps were in a cot , from 5 months. So the other day I tried lifting her into her cot when she fell asleep in bouncer , second I picked her she woke up , and was wide awake trying to put her into cot , she doesn’t have set time for naps right now she just falls asleep after a bottle but not straight after .But she sleeps all night in her cot !
can I continue just to let her nap downstairs with me in her bouncer , or should I try do cot naps ? My worry is if we’re out and she needs a nap she won’t be in her cot. She naps also when out in the pram , any thoughts ?

She's still very young, don't worry about it. Both of mine had every single nap as a contact nap (other than if in the car seat as wouldn't even go in a pram, just carrier), until they were 8 months old. At that time they'd start having naps in the cot/on my bed..

If she's napping in pram you're winning!

Thank you ! She could fall asleep anywhere to be fair , but if I try pick her up to put her in her cot she wakes up , she was sleeping on me after her bottle this morning , tried to put her back in cot and now she’s wide awake watching miss Rachel 😆 she might fall asleep in her bouncer at some stage🥲

Neither of my children have ever napped in their cots. The oldest would only nap on me, in the pram, or in the car. My youngest can sometimes be transferred to the sofa, but only if I sit by him patting his bum so it's not really worth it.

Unless it bothers you I'd continue as you are. The baby gets lots of lovely cuddles and you get to relax for a bit. I miss my older child sleeping on me already.

Aw, no it doesn’t bother me at all! Just I thought it was the norm to do cot naps , as you see all these mum influencers online putting their baby down for a nap in cot , as well as everyone I know does it , I thought she had to be in a cot for naps , but if it’s okay il continue as I am :)

A friend of mine did this and was then stuck with having to get home by a certain time until her LO was 2…. For a two hour nap every day in the cot. To be fair I was a bit envious as my DD (much older now) never went in the cot and just slept in a pram or sling, and it might have been nice to have some time myself to get on with things at home. But if you are happy with the arrangement then don’t worry what others are/aren’t doing. Things evolve over time anyway and it doesn’t really matter.

Neither of mine ever napped in the cot, I had to wheel them around in the pram to get them to sleep.

I started putting my second to nap in a cot from about 5 months. He naps wherever he is now at 18 months and it doesn't have to be a cot but when at home that's the age he started being bothered by noise downstairs so it worked better to put him upstairs in the cot.

Didn't start cot naps until he had dropped to one nap a day. Until that point it was all contact naps, pram naps and car naps.

My 2yo DS has never had a nap in a cot. Like your D as soon as he is moved he wakes up and any semblance of a nap is over and cannot be shushed/patted/rocked or whatever else back to sleep. I still find him asleep in random places at random times of day (as my mum likes to say like me as a toddler). The other day he was playing with his toys and it went quiet and I found him in amongst the toys asleep with his bum in the air. My DH found him asleep stood on a stool with his head on the window sill. I don’t know if it was an issue with the cot he was unhappy sleeping in it at nighttime and was in a double bed at 9mo. He’s a great sleeper at night give or take leaps and illnesses. You do you.

I just did what worked at the time, before 6 months it was breastfeeding to sleep/contact nap, sling or pram out and about
After 6 months if there was some house work or something I wanted to do I'd try for a cot nap, sometimes it worked other times putting her down would wake her but she's go back to sleep being held so I just held her
We started to get into a natural routine where first nap would be feeding/contact, second would be fed to sleep but then placed in cot
Then she started to not go down so we switched it up to being rocked to sleep then put in the cot in the morning and contact or pram whatever in the afternoon until she refused the late afternoon nap
Anyways now she is 14 months and if at home she'll be rocked and go in the cot, if out she'll sleep in the pram or sling

What bouncer do you have @Ttc125 that goes down flat?

wishIwasonholiday10 · 01/04/2024 17:14

Mine wouldn’t nap in the cot until around 8 months when one day she magically stayed asleep after transferring her. It was all contact naps or the pram until then. If it doesn’t bother you just keep doing what works. Now at 20 months most of her naps are in the cot and I find it hard to get a good nap in the pram so I miss the flexibility of shorter naps in the pram. I find the lunchtime nap really awkward for getting out and doing stuff.
