Baby seems to have developed a tic

Wonder if anyone’s baby has done similar:

Over the last few days my baby (7 months) has started to do this involuntary tic where she shrugs shoulders violently and screws up her face. Yesterday she also flung herself back and seemed shocked it had happened.

I’ve contacted 111 and waiting for a call back within 12 hours.

Has anyone got any experience of this please?

I’ve just looked this up as hasn’t heard of it. It sort of does match the descriptions but can’t find a video that looks similar to what my little girl is doing. Hmmmm…

thank you for the signpost!

Has she had any of her vaccinations recently? My son (much older) developed some facial tics after a jab; I took him to an osteopath, who said it was not an uncommon reaction. They went away soon after.

Try and film it (I know easier said than done). Then Dr can watch and let you know if it's something significant or not.

I’d get her seen asap in case it’s some sort of seizure. Try and film it.

Cuwins · 30/03/2024 09:46

Whatever 111 say I would make sure she is seen by someone within the next week.
Also as PP said try to catch it on film as it's unlikely she will perform in front of the dr!

Bless you OP what a worry - as a mum to a child with epilepsy, I would make a diary of when / where it happens, any possible triggers (tiredness etc), and as many videos as you possibly can.

We took our DD to the GP when she was around 6 months old with lots of evidence, and they were able to refer her for an EEG and to be seen under a specialist consultant. I'm not in any way diagnosing, as it could be something completely unrelated or something she grows out of. Best of luck OP, I hope you get some answers Flowers

Thanks so much for this kind and useful information. Have started a log and managed to get quite a lot of videos of the facial episodes already, none of the flinging back though.

111 actually text me to say they cancelled my call back as there were too many emergencies. I’m going to ensure I get a GP appointment on Tuesday morning to discuss.

Thanks again. I hope your DD is absolutely thriving.

Ahh this in interesting. She hasn’t had any vaccinations recently. Only thing I can think that has changed is diet as we have started weaning. Thanks for the info and glad your son got sorted.
