Help from Welsh speakers please

I come from a bilingual family but for lots of reasons have pretty much "lost" all my Welsh. Had we stayed in Wales I had planned to take some sort of learners' course but we moved away 5 years ago. DD is very keen to learn Welsh. She's being encouraged by her Welsh speaking music teacher who has plans to set up a branch of the Urdd.

So, can you recommend any resources I can use with DD? She's just turned 7 and pretty bright. She plays on the Planed Plant Bach website but would happily do something a bit more structured. My pronounciation is ok apparently so I would be able to help a bit.

Thanks

Didn't want to leave this unaswered and hopefully someone with more useful information will come along too.

Take a look at www.mym.co.uk which is the website of Mudiad Ysgolion Meithrin. I realise that at 7 your DD is too old for nursery but they do have an online shop which sells books, CDs, DVDs, learning resources etc. which you may find of help.

I'm don't know where you are, but are you able to get S4C programmes via digital/Sky? I believe that they are planning to start showing more Planed Plant Bach programmes on the digital channel from early mornings from June/July this year which should be great as there's currently only about half an hours worth on at lunchtime (really useful time!)

Hello MariaLuisa,
Looooong time no see.

I never knew you were a Welsh speaker.

I know lots of people who get S4C which is a good start. Try also this website which offrs practical support and advice.

Thanks Moondog and Mejon, that's really helpful.

My mum's family are Welsh speakers, my Taid used to take me canvassing for Plaid, but boarding school in England from 7 and then moving away from the extended family mean that my Welsh is nearly all gone. DD is very keen and very proud of being Welsh (although DH kindly points out that her "culture" is more Taff Wars than the Mabinogion!)and as she's keen and has access to encouraging native speakers I think we should give it a go.

I'd like to add to that, here is the link for TWF.
www.twfcymru.com.

Where are you based? There is a Welsh School in North London, kids often attend one day a week I think :-)

My husband and I are both welsh speakers but haven't encouraged our 3 year old to speak the lingo . We are planning on introducing him to the language but want him to have a good grasp of english first. We live in SE London and aren't planning to return to live in Wales. He does hear a lot of Welsh at home and understands more than we think, he's also started picking it up from his cousins, nain & taid who are all in North Wales.

HTH

Sorry to hijack the thread - but I am sooo jealous! Did no-one ever think to establish a Welsh School in Birmingham?
