Hi all
I am on my first day of washables and i am building up my collection slowly to see what suits.
Well i started today but we only have 3 ME and one wrap. I have various pockets to come next week, but for now need to make do with these as far as poss.
I would like to use them tomorrow so as to limit the number of disposables i am using, but can i put them in a wash with my usual washing or do i need to pt a wash on for 3 nappies? One nappy is a bit pooey?
Sorry for such a dull and boring question!

I do a mixed wash when the need arises but without fabric conditioner (add a splash of white vinegar to the conditioner compartment instead). I use fleece liners so most poo is easily rolled or rinsed off in the toilet. If the nappy itself is a bit pooey then similarly, I'll give it a bit of a swish around in the loo then hold it (tightly!) under the flush (sorry TMI!)

I do separatly, because they are toxic when dd has finishe with them. Always have done them separatly, but these days I do put wraps through with clothes.

Do you have any thing else that could go through? I have a collection of towels that are used for spills and flannels for mucky faces & hands and these all go through together.

You could scrape off as much poo as poss, give it a good rinse in the loo, then on an extra long wash.

Disposable nappy liners are the way imo

I stuck all my nappies in the machine, selected a rinse only cycle by bypassing the wash part(this is 3 x complete cold rinse cycle on my machine) then bunged in the powder/soap nuts or whatever and more whites and washed everything together.

I prefer not to put the pooey ones in with clothes, but fine with towels (which can be washed fine at 60) or other stuff like tea towels etc. It is a bit awkward when you only have a few though.

CarGirl · 28/03/2008 15:57

yes always rinse the poo down the toilet first!!!!

Every now and then would do a nappy & flannel wash only at 50 or 60 degrees but only once they were older and the wee spelt of amonia.

we're toilet training so have pooey pants rather than nappies. I put them separately on a pre-wash to get rid of the poo and then shove them in a normal wash with everything else

bobsmum · 28/03/2008 16:00

I rinse them all first then bung in dishtowels/flannels/towels etc too.

Separately.

I wash my nappies on a longer wash with pre-rinse and without fabric conditioner.

I was the clothes with ecoballs or with powder and fabric conditioner on a much shorter cycle.

The very few times (ah - the joys of cloth) that there's been an explosion, I wash the offending item of clothing with the nappies.

I would never do a wash just for 3 nappies .

If I were you I would do as others suggest and put them on a rinse cycle on their own before adding the rest of your washing. Make sure no fabric conditioner though.

Washersaurus · 29/03/2008 23:38

I usually put 3 buckets worth of nappies and washable wipes into my machine, so no room for anything else! I always wash the wraps with my other laundry though.

I'm happy to was wet nappies with clothes but not dirty ones. But that's just me. If i were you i'd do your 3 with towels.
