Breaking routine for an event?

evening ladies
just wondering other people’s experiences on this as I’m a FTM.
DD is 5 months and we are off to a wedding tomorrow. We don’t have any daytime routine really but she does have a good bedtime routine.

she knows when she’s had enough for the day and she then starts getting fussy for a last bottle and bed, this always happens between 6-7pm and it’s just a routine that we fell into from about 2 months.

as it’s a wedding (my BIL, DD’s uncle) would you say to just not take her into a bedtime setting and then maybe she’ll stay up, or would you just stick to the routine?

Just go by your baby. She might get overstimulated being around so many people or she may love it.
Personally, I am a believer in breaking routine for events. But my three are pretty chill and I am not a routine person.

I think it depends on how much longer you need/would like her to stay up? I think if it’s just an hour or so extra she would probably be fine as there’s stuff going on but much more than that if she’s anything like my DS you’re entering crying overtired territory and you won’t want to be there anyway.

Are you staying at the venue overnight or travelling home? Will your DD sleep in a pram? You could take a sleepsuit and give bottle as you normally would so after the event you only need to pop her straight to bed.

Im a FTM too and always thought I’d be the go with the flow type but my LO is thriving on routine and I hate messing with it too much. For a wedding though I’d try and work something reasonable out. I definitely wouldn’t stay until the end though but that’s because I know my DS limits. I do have friends though who’s LOs are more tolerant to disruptions in routine….unfortunately mine isn’t one of them.

i would always break routines for events. life does t run on a routine - things happen and change so babies and kids have to get used to that too

im pretty chill about routines in the sense that I always follow DD’s lead, I’ve just not really had an opportunity where I’d had to break her routine and I think that’s what’s worrying me!

she definitely does get overtired throughout the day in general as she fights her naps quite a lot as she is very much a FOMO baby. By the night time she is absolutely shattered and so ready for bed which I do understand.

it might be worth me giving her a normal bottle at her bedtime and keeping her in the same environment, and then a couple of hours after that I can try to get her down for bed…….

I suppose I won’t know unless I try!!! Here’s hoping it all works out! Thanks ladies

I'd give her a bottle, change her into her babygro & sleeping bag (or whatever she sleeps in) pop her in the pushchair with the hood down as far as it will go and push her around until she nods off. Then park her in a corner and keep an eye on her.

As above I would take the pram and a blanket and try to put her to bed in it.

Assuming when she’s at home you stay with her when she goes ‘to bed’ of an evening at 6/7pm I’d just put her in the pram near you as her bed at around that time.
