Colic or more?

Not sure where to go from here.. new mum with 2 month old little boy.

Suffers with very bad wind and constipation. He cries and strains so much he throws up, he spends most of his wake windows crying making it so difficult to do any development work.

He’s formula fed as he couldn’t latch at birth, we’ve since tried switching his formula to Hipp colic and constipation but that hasn’t made much difference. We’ve tried infacol which constipated him further, and gripe water, as well as all the normal feeding tricks.

He just seems very unhappy and I’m struggling to know where to turn next. Doctors aren’t interested and are telling me to ride it out but I’m struggling with PPD and anxiety. No close family members to regularly help so I feel like I’m already messing all of this up. Any advise?

Baby massage
Osteopathy
Obviously make sure they are trained in working with babies

Constipation can be a symptom of cmpa. Given the other symptoms I would be asking for a trial of hypoallergenic formula

I'm sorry to hear you're having a difficult time OP. There may well be some solutions for the constipation etc, but also there isn't a mother alive that doesn't think she's messing it all up sometimes, especially at the beginning. I remember feeling rigid with panic sometimes. You're doing great and even the fact you're thinking carefully about your baby shows that. Alongside the practical suggestions about baby osteopathy/allergies, you might want to look into getting some support for yourself - whether its short bits of time away from the baby to get some head space, or asking the GP/health visitor for support with your own mental health.

Thank you so much for your kind words. It is reassuring to know others feel the same way.
I’ve tried to get support from the doctors but unfortunately I’m not getting very far with that either. I’ve been told to stick it out and “hopefully I’ll feel better” by the medical team. Hoping things will get easier once we figure out his tummy issues

Yes I’m sure they will - nothing like endless crying to send you over the edge. Look up ‘PURPLE’ crying might be helpful. And remember you can always ask to see a different GP if not being taken seriously (for both you and baby).

Just realised that purple links to lots about shaken babies - not all implying that is a worry, I just remembered it being reassuring that babies often go through a peak of crying at 2 months.
