CMPA help!

My LO is 15 weeks old and we’ve struggled most of her life with reflux, feeding etc! We’ve tried colief drops, infacol, gripe water, aptamil comfort, normal aptamil but hv and gp told us to go back to mamia milk and gaviscon which has worked for about 6 weeks. Two weeks ago my daughter randomly started refusing bottles, arching back etc again so last week my HV finally said she would get my GP to prescribe aptamil pepti 1.
However!! She reacted so badly when we tried it, even when we mixed it with her mamia milk, complete refusal to drink it. Screaming for hours, gagging, spitting the milk out. It was horrendous for two days. I called the gp who advised to go back to mamia milk and see how she was. Which we did and she was amazing for 7 days. Yesterday she pooped during every bottle, quite runny, green mucusy poops. Didn’t seem unsettled or anything but now I’m worried it’s an allergy or intolerance and I need to go back to specialised milk. Is there any milks I can try before aptamil pepti 1 which is the first line treatment? I’m not convinced it’s full blown cmpa as her only symptom is the green mucus poop so think it could be an intolerance rather than allergy. Please help!

That sounds exactly like an allergy and pepti is the first treatment. I would possibly say that the reaction you got would suggest a different milk would be needed as they sound like they were reacting to it. Feeding aversions can be a symptom of cmpa. My daughter has a lot of food allergies and was breastfed. Her first symptom of a reaction to me eating a food she reacted to was refusing to feed.
Pepti is still cows milk based you might find you need an amino acid formula. Intolerance isn't used that often anymore. there are two types of allergies. Immediate which are what most people think of as allergies and then there are delayed allergies which cause the more gastric based symptoms you described. They still count as allergies rather than intolerance as teeny tiny responses can trigger big reactions. We did a coconut trial on Saturday with a crumb of a biscuit and we have had 6 days of vomiting and diarrhoea.

Can I ask how you got on afterwards?? Daughter is starting Pepti and so scared as have seen so many negatives 🤦🏼‍♀️

@Kilminchy123 not great, my baby wouldn’t tolerate Pepti 1 so we got moved to neocate last week. I’m transitioning her over slowly this time. Currently doing 3 scoops of her old formula and 2 scoops of neocate. After a few days il do 3 scoops of neocate with 2 scoops of her old formula and so on!

@Kilminchy123 how did your LO get on with the Aptamil Pepti 1? We’ve been given this today, and am in the same boat - abit nervous due to all the negative reviews

Hi OP. How did your baby get on with the Neocate? I'm in same boat, currently on Aptamil Pepti but still having explosive poos and is gassy and unsettled a lot of the time.

@Exhaustedmummy2024 she transitioned to neocate over the course of about 10 days and has been on it ever since - she’s 9 months now. We’re also weaning her dairy free. All her symptoms stopped after a few weeks too. No more explosions/runny/mucousy nappies, no arching back while feeding, no sore gas etc. she still is quite a fussy baby, not sure if that’s her reflux or just her temperament lol. She is on omeprazole for her reflux which I believe can get worse when on amino acid formulas because they are so thin! Hope your little one is ok. If symptoms persist on aptamil then request a more hydrolysed formula like neocate or alfamino. Although I think some GPs/HV like you to try each milk for a few weeks which is hell when you know your LO isn’t getting better!
