To feet or not to feet?

Thought this might be a fun chat for this morning.
I don't know about you but my baby ( now 9 months) lives in sleep suits and vests. Largely because I don't have the time or energy to deal with cute " outfits."
She's long and slim and grew out of her 6 to 9 clothes by about 7 months. So I've said to DH;
" Right, We're just buying the sleep suits without feet from now on. Her feet are always bigger than the suit she is wearing and if she grows out the length by summer then they'll be perfect as short ones"
Cut to two days after shopping and man am I sick of loosing socks 😅

Lightweight soft-soled 'shoes'!

Sock ons. Available from Amazon. The only thing I found that kept socks on feet.

SBHon · 28/03/2024 08:32

Tesco baby socks have a bit of hidden elastic around the ankle that helps keep them on.

My stay on sock technique is:
Put socks on first and pull them right up, then put clothes on over the top.

Or: tights.

@SBHon nice I will head to Tesco when we need to restock. Good advice. Tights are a good one if it's not too hot actually. Does anyone know where does nice ones?

@stripes92 talk about doing what it says on the tin lol. I will definitely look into this.

@Hownowbrownsheep aww she has some lovely booties from my mum actually but I'm worried about loosing them

There are a lot of clothes that sit in between sleepsuits and fiddly outfits. My daughter lived in tights dungarees and vests or vests, tops and leggings or tights and dresses. With a reflux baby they were perfect as I didn't have to change the whole outfit. They can also be good for a baby that is a different size for legs and body. We did cloth nappies and she went up a size on the bottoms earlier than she did the tops. I hated sleepsuits as they meant several full outfit changes a day and it was hard to find ones that weren't too big in the body whilst going over her big cloth bum! It also helped my pnd as I could separate night and day.
We used moccasin slippers which stayed on better than socks

We moved to vest, top and leggings for the day. Then vest and sleepsuit at night. Ds is 11 months old but he’s been in that pattern since he was about 2-3 months old.

It works really well because if he’s a bit sick or if he’s messy with food then it’s just a top change. If he leaks it’s a vest and leggings change but reuse the same top.

Oh yes socks are just a pain. Ds likes to pull them off and try to eat them, he has since he was a few months old, he used to shuffle his feet on the floor/surface until the sock was off. A few months ago he had managed to kick his sock off in the supermarket. We have started to put shoes on when he goes out now in the hope that a) it becomes routine b) he doesn’t object when he’s a bit older like a friends dc did.

DD2 lived in tights from about 8-14 months because she was far too good at getting socks off and it was winter in Scotland. I just bought a bundle off Vinted, used the ones I liked better with dresses and the others under leggings/dungarees/etc.

The soft leather Dotty Fish/Inch Blue type shoes are surprisingly easy for you to put on and surprisingly hard for baby to get off. We had some from Minifeet that held up to a lot of wear (early walkers).

I think when the weather allows it's nice to have footless so they can be sockless inside when it's warm enough as it's good for their sensory development to be able to play with their feet. I do a mixture of socks/footless and footed sleepsuits depending on how much we are going to be outside as my DD also has a knack for taking her socks off immediately! I find footless sleepsuits also last longer as my DD's feet grow fast!

FurnitureAddict · 28/03/2024 11:50

All my kids lived in sleepsuits with feet or footless sleepsuits with tights (even my little boy wore tights as I was fed up with losing the socks). Another alternative is a long sleeved bodysuit and trousers with the built in feet. H&M and m&s do some lovely ones, I always found the feet parts seemed bigger in the trousers than sleepsuits

InTheRainOnATrain · 28/03/2024 11:58

Tights or leggings with feet with a jumper or a pull on sweater dress over. Doesn’t require any more time or energy than a sleep suit as it’s 2 pull on items, actually think it’s easier for nappy changes too as they can be just be pulled down to their knees, legs don’t have to come out and also if they get their top mucky during a meal then you just change that. Most crucially though you can mis match the sizes to suit longer legs, chubbier tummy etc

TinyTeachr · 28/03/2024 12:40

For onesies go one size up and then roll sleeves.

Dress and tights can be sooooo easy. My eldest passed on not a single pair of socks. My boys managed fine without! Far too much faff until they are walking in my opinion. They like to Feel their toes on the ground when cruising/toddking anyway

Thanks for all the replies lots of online window shopping for me tonight.
@BurbageBrook I actually agree and she does really get going around the house without socks on the little monkey!

La active socks on amazon don’t come off and last years my three year old is still in the 1-3 size I bought when he was a baby

Yourethebeerthief · 29/03/2024 07:54

I couldn't do footed clothing because he was too short so the feet always dangled.

I always bought long socks. Really long. Up the the knee! He looked like he was wearing plus fours all the time, but they stayed on.
