Anyone tried gynefix?

DS was a lovely and unexpected surprise last year but am keen to wait a year or so before doing it all again! Now wondering what contraception to use in the mean time. Not keen on anything hormonal and worried that the coil will bring return of heavy and painful periods (mercifully they have disappeared after childbirth ). Someone has mentioned 'gynefix' which apparently is a more user-friendly IUD that doesn't cause heavy periods. Has anyone tried it?

Any luck? Did you try it in the end? I've had a couple of different coils in the past.

The first one I had came out after 5 years. Not bad, but it was very painful when it did.

I had that replaced with a Silverlily, which was brilliant. But I've learned it's not available in the UK (we lived in Switzerland at the time).

After my daughter, I tried the IUD here (not the gynefix), but it came out in less than a week, causing me to essentially haemorrhage. Pretty scary.

I've been trying everything to try to get a Silverlily or something similar (I may even resort to going abroad - it is good for 10 years after all), but so far no luck.

I though the Gynefix sounds similar to the Silverlily, so I'm keen to hear from anyone that has any experience with it!

Gynefix- brilliant, no problems at all, and has practically eliminated my periods too.

Really? That sounds great! Does it have hormones then? Have I missed something? I'm struggling to understand why my Gyno and GP haven't recommended...

I think it does release hormones slowly over time, but I can't remember the details. I just got it fitted a few years ago and haven't had to think about it since! Try googling it perhaps? It's called an IUS rather than IUD (stands for system). Good luck x

Mirena- heaven. Used to have periods from hell, now have barely anything at all.

If i remember rightly (am happy to be corrected if so!) isn't the Gynefix the one that is a like a little strand of copper beads that they actually attach to the top of your uterus? (ie its not the standard t-shape that dangles down into the cervix mouth)

I have heard its great for contraception without the heavy periods thing - but I did not fancy the idea of having it inserted so high (unless I was under GA maybe!)
