Hi all, our baby boy is 7 months old and seems to have fallen ill for the first time. Has a temperature of 38.3C, a bit of runny nose and occasional coughs. He was mostly fine during the day but has been waking up crying every 15mins or so since going to bed at around 7pm. He's had 700ml milk today and some solids, and doesn't seem to want more milk when offered.

Any tips on making him comfortable and sleep well please? Shall I give him calpol? Thanks!

Yes to calpol (usually 5ml every 4-6 hours at this age)
don’t cover him with extra clothes/blankets
keep him hydrated (offer sips of water or milk)
keep room temperature at 16-20 as usual

it will be a horrible few days but as long as he is eating/drinking and having wet nappies, it should be easily managed at home.

(keep an eye out for temp not settling with calpol/ any rashes/not able to take any fluids or increased breathing effort - that’s when you need to seek medical advice)

First check regularly for a rash and if present do the glass check. Without a rash it sounds like a big standard bug and the temperature whilst raised is not actually that high. Offer fluids regularly, he might prefer water to milk, don’t worry if he doesn’t eat as much as usual for a few days, that is normal.
You can give calpol as per the bottle, I would definitely give it before bed to help him sleep well and recover.
I also used to offer ice pops to help cool my dc down and it also gets more fluids in.
Hope he feels better soon.

Yes to calpol. That should settle his temperature. If it doesn’t then that’s the time to seek medical advice.

Make sure he stays hydrated and check for wet nappies. Again, if any of these become a problem, seek medical advice.

Hope he's better soon.

The calpol room plug-ins used to help my DS sleep when he was poorly at that age. Bit late to go and get any now but for tomorrow. Hope he feels better soon.

You can get saline spray to help clear their nose. Also try snuffle babe (Vicks for babies) and the plug in vaporiser things. Definitely Calpol (you can give ibuprofen too if temp won't come down - piggy back them 2 hours apart but don't exceed the stated maximum dose in 24 hours). Inclining the cot can help too.

Other people may be along to tell you to put half an onion on the radiator and so on.

Offered him calpol and he threw up all his dinner... think the same happened the first time we gave him calpol after vaccination. Maybe he doesn't like the flavour??
