Do you talk to your kids about values? How?

I’ve had a niggling feeling that I want us to talk about values more specifically in our family, as a way of teaching our kids.

We already (try to!) model kindness, respect, etc, and talk about being kind, showing respect etc. But it feels like the consumerist values and pressures from the world at large are so powerful that we need to ramp it up a bit.

Also, DD is 7 and I come from a culture where kids would normally make their communion so even though we’re very atheist, I do think it’s a good age to have these discussions.

But I’m curious - how do you do it? Do you do it? Am I overthinking this?

You have to live out your values. So, in our case, helping people, giving to charity, going to Church etc.

As well as this, when moral issues are discussed as they get older we give our points of view and tell them why we think the way we do.
