10mo not eating much

Hi all
I have a just turned 10mo wee girl. We started her weaning journey at 6m (BLW mostly).
I have told myself throughout her journey that 'food before 1 is just for fun' but I am getting a bit worried that her quantity is very small, if anything it seems to have refused. This is her typical day:
7am bottle
8am breakfast
10am snack
11am bottle
1pm lunch
3pm bottle
4pm snack
5/5.30pm dinner
7pm bottle

She gets a varied enough diet and will try most things but after 2-3 spoonfuls/bites that's her done. She starts playing with the food and throwing it off the high chair (very annoying haha but part of the BLW fun I suppose).
Should I be a bit worried at this stage? I keep hoping it will all change overnight, wishful thinking!
Any advice much appreciated 😊

No advise but that all sounds really normal to me... the fact she's drinking milk will keep her full.. if it keeps continuing after 12 months then you could look at giving her less milk but honestly, don't worry about it... she's getting what she needs. My now 2 year old was an amazing eater and now I alternate between 2 things he'll eat for dinner and minimal veg.. sometimes just wants to constantly snack other days just hands me his plate as soon as I've put it down and says "Noo" so the battle is always changing!
I would look at following some mums on TikTok with similar aged kids- you'll see quickly how normal it all is xx

If her weight and growth is fine then it's fine.

WittiestUsernameEver · 21/03/2024 18:24

I wouldn't be feeding her every 1-2 hours for a start. She's probably not hungry tbh!

Cut the snack or bottle at 10 and 4.and space it out....

Try her something like;

7am bottle
8am breakfast
10:30 snack
1pm lunch
3pm bottle
5/5.30pm dinner
7pm bottle

@Bluebella27 thank-you so much for your reply and advice. Oh no, so soul destroying when you have put so much effort into the dinner too I'm sure haha. Thanks for the reassurance, I had a bit of a wobble with it today when she turned 10mo and no difference but I'll not panic. Good idea about tiktok, it has its positives too. I do get 'mum comparing' when I'm on it sometimes.

@Luckydog7 yeah all good with weight and growth thank God!
@WittiestUsernameEver that's what my husband says 😅 thinks I'm feeding her too much. I will try that thank-you!

My daughter only put on 200g between 7 and 13 months. At 10 months she ate maybe a spoon or two of breakfast and a hand full of peas and that was it for the day. She didn't start engaging with weaning until 13 months and it was 20 months when she started to eat enough to wean off formula. She was under a dietician and paediatrician throughout this time for reflux and allergies and they weren't concerned.
It sounds like she is doing well with trying things and the frequency it will just take time for the portions to come up from tastes of food to eating enough for life. Different babies get this at different rates.

@Superscientist thank-you for this, it's really good to hear other Mums experiences. I deep down agree that every child is so different, just takes some that wee bit longer. Great to hear the professionals weren't concerned with your LO. I was half tempted to ring the HV but I don't have much faith that I will learn anything from her!
My wee girl isn't crawling yet either or pulling herself up but I'm not concerned about that.

You aren't feeding her too much, just too often :)

CadyEastman · 21/03/2024 20:38

Current advice is 400 ml at 10 months.

I'd offer breakfast at 7am instead if the bottle and see if that helps to importer her appetite Wink

Rowen32 · 21/03/2024 20:45

I wouldn't be doing the snack.. I did milk feeds as snacks.. Even now my older one only has one snack in the day..

bakewellbride · 21/03/2024 20:47

Could you try dropping the snacks? I didn't introduce snacks until after 1

CadyEastman · 21/03/2024 20:47

*improve

Rowen32 · 21/03/2024 20:49

Something like 7am bottle, 8am breakfast, 10:30 am bottle, 1pm lunch, 3:30pm bottle 5:30 dinner 7 bottle - even still seems a bit much if bottles are big..

Rowen32 · 21/03/2024 20:49

The 3:30-7 bit I mean..

Leaf86 · 21/03/2024 21:02

My 10m old has three bottles a day - about 200 ml each time (9, 2 and 6.30ish). He doesn’t really get offered snacks. Breakfast is at 7 (so he has solids before any milk). There are some days where he eats 2-3 mouthfuls per meal, other days he eats everything/a lot. Apparently babies regulate their appetite over a week rather than a day, which is why there is quite a bit of variation. I think I would try to move to 3 bottles and get rid of the snacks.
If she’s hungrier, she’ll be less likely to graze (ie eat little but often).

cheesepleasegromit · 21/03/2024 21:10

Yes definitely get rid of the snacks, these aren't recommended until after 1 and she probably isn't that hungry. I used to do food before milk too as I found that milk filled him up too much - I always read to give bottle first thing but we went straight to breakfast which worked for us.

CadyEastman · 22/03/2024 07:05

Will she stand for a short while if you are holding her hands?

Yourethebeerthief · 22/03/2024 20:26

I didn't bother with snacks until the breastfeeding had really cut down. I think regular snacking started properly when he stopped breastfeeding altogether just before he turned 2. Certainly, up until 1 year or so breast milk was snack! Milk is very filling for them.

Their appetites really go up and down as well and they know how much they need to eat. It can be frustrating but it's best to just go with it, especially when the toddler stage starts. Offer food and she'll eat what she wants. They can pick up on any stress around food so try to force yourself not to care. Your job as parent is just to provide the healthy meals and let them do the rest- even when that means most of it ending up on the floor! Blush
