Hello all. My little one (3 in April) has been potty trained since last August, no nappies at night also but the last few weeks on and off but especially this week he seems to have regressed. It’s so frustrating it’s not a full wee but bits. he just doesn’t say he needs to go very often now. He will still say he needs a wee but more often than not at the minute he’s just wetting himself (a little bit) and then saying he’s weed we go to the toilet and he finishes off. It’s so frustrating. He’s been so good with it up to now. He goes to nursery 3 days a week and always seems worse the days after. Anyone else? Or any tips!

Could he be bit constipated? That can affect how they feel the signal that they need to go.

Could he have a urine infection? X

My 3.5 year old who has been totally dry for a year goes through funny weeks like this. It's incredibly frustrating. Our tactic is to go back to reminding him to go to the toilet every two hours, even if that means stopping him playing to make sure he goes.

Mine was in a helpful stage so wanted to know what I was doing in the bath tub (rinsing out the clothes in plastic bags from nursery). And there were a few days worth.

He wanted to see and to help, so I explained that we rinse before going into the laundry because pee pee stinks- he sniffed was like yuuuuuck.

Yes, and that's what happens when we do "raindrops" or have an accident. Our problem then was he didn't see a few drops as a problem.

I let him help and he put the wet items in the wash. That seemed to be a turning point.

Just mindful, if you take that approach of engaging them, you don't shame them. It was very factual, when this happens, we do this, pass me the soap, here's what to do, yes you can help, etc

I think a bit of a regression is very normal especially when they are potty trained nearer 2. I wouldn't worry too much just remind them a bit more often and they will go back to their old habits again.

@WhatNoRaisins no he’s not constipated. He has been having his regular daily poop. Probably a little softer than normal if I’m honest.
@myheadisaterribleplace i hope not. He doesn’t have any other symptoms? 🤞🤞🤞

@TheBirdintheCave really? Is it short lived? It’s frustrating and concerning. It’s like he hates even sitting on it now.

@MummySleepDeprived this is a good idea thank you. I realise that through all my strength I’ve still been showing disappointment and that’s obviously not going to help… 😢

@chocomoccalocca i hope it’s normal and short lived 🙏🤞 I am constantly reminding him probably boring him to be honest but he says no then does it anyway. I do think it’s probably more so when he’s busy. Although he did it while sitting on the sofa eating snack the other day x

He’s probably just pushing to the limit of how long he can hold it for. It’s very normal. I’d just go back to taking him regularly, as frequently as you need like maybe every 1.5-2 hours, until he’s not having accidents then step back and let him start to initiate again.

Don’t ask. Just take him if it’s been 2 hours and he hasn’t taken himself.
