When did you introduce a duvet for your LO?

Just wondering at what age other parents have introduced a duvet for their little one. My DD is one and has got into the habit of standing up and dashing around in her cot, while wearing her sleeping bag, which has resulted in her tripping and hitting her head on the bars a couple of times.

I was wondering if it’s too soon to give her a duvet. I think we were planning on waiting until she was in a big girl bed/with the side off her cot but because she is so active and keeps clambering around in her cot, wearing the sleeping bag is making her stumble a bit and I can just see the tumbles continuing!

She’s almost grown out of her 6-12 month sleeping bag so I don’t know whether to get her the next size up or get her a duvet.

Thank you in advance!

Hello. DS is 2.5 and only just moved onto duvets. We used sleeping bags with legs, like this one -

I kept my 1st in a sleeping bag until I moved them into a toddler bed at 2 years, 4/5 months. They were a great sleeper and was reluctant to change anything and disrupt it. My 2nd is currently 2 years, 5 months and is still in cot and sleeping bag. I have the opposite problem to you that when I take them out the sleeping bag all they want to do is run around cot. I'll probably move to toddler bed in the warmer weather and switch to duvet then too. It's cold just now incase they kick duvet off.

Pretty much on their first birthdays. Along with a pillow. Ikea’s finest from their nursery range. You could always try it and if she doesn’t like it pack it away for a bit and get new bags. She’s going to move to a duvet eventually so it won’t be a wasted purchase especially if you have a cot bed so it’ll be the right size.

We got grobags with legs too, absolute game changer. Switched to a duvet when she moved into her own room around 2.5. The only difference it made was she’s never slept on her front since. Before she used to sleep like a baby on her front with her bum in the air, which was very cute. Since the duvet she’s a back or side sleeper.

When she was almost 3! But appreciate that's late!

When they climbed out of the cot, so the sides came off.
Days after his second birthday for DS1. 18 months for DS2.

Thank you for your suggestions everyone. I think I will stick with a sleeping bag for now, until she is physically climbing out of the cot and we take the sides off! By the time she’s 18 months it will be summer so I’m expecting that she may prefer a lightweight duvet by then anyway as her room gets quite warm. But thank you for all of your advice 😊

We stopped with sleeping bags at 18 months when she learnt to escape them. This was summer so we did blankets and kept winter PJ's so she didn't need a sleeping bag.
She was 2 in August and we moved her to a bed and got a duvet cover first and then once the weather start to turn

She's not very good at keeping the covers on so at 3 and a bit we got her a heated blanket too go under her sheet and we have an electric radiator in her room so she is still warm enough if she rejects the covers. We find it she is warm she keeps the covers on. If she is cold in they get thrown on they floor.... illogical I know!

My son is 2.5 and still uses a sleeping bag. He walks around his cot in it no problem. His room can get quite cool at night and I know he wouldn't stay under covers so sleeping bag is working well for now.
