3.5 month old sudden dummy refusal

Hi all - looking for advice. My DS has all of sudden taken a dislike to his dummy. It was the only thing that settled him in his next to me where he would nap maybe once a day (with me next to him so I could get a nap in too). He’s 3.5 months and naps in general have been hell so we are not having a fun time here. Now he will go mental if I even try offer the dummy & I can only get him to sleep on the boob eventually. Any tips or anyone that been through it and baby has taken dummy again?

Could it be a sleep regression?

At least you won't have to prize it away from them in a few years! My 3 year old still loves hers!😬

4 months is a really tough age - peak tiredness and you probably don't have much of an evening/time to yourself. Things to try are other comforters like toys or blankets or different brands of dummy. There's light at the end of the tunnel when the sleep regression is over. Could be a short one with any luck.

Oh yeah we have a 4 year old who loved hers and never ever refused it till we took it away at 2.5 years. I just would love him to be able to settle with it like he used to then also my husband can help out with settling.
He absolutely loves a muslin next to his face but obviously I can’t leave him with that to sleep. Just feel like I lie him in his next to me & I have no way of settling him to sleep.
@AngSey I think yes we are heading into sleep regression for sure, just didn’t think it would affect him taking a dummy 🥴

Have you tried changing the size or brand to see if they like anything better?

3-4 months is when they lose the automatic reflex to suck if something is put in their mouth. They become picky about what they will and won’t suck on.

It was pretty much bang on 3.5 months that DS2 rejected the dummy and the daily bottle of formula he had (otherwise EBF). Never went back to either I’m afraid!

I haven’t but I will try the next size up to see if it makes any difference.
@VivaVivaa i feared this. He has one formula bottle too a day and about a month ago was a nightmare at taking it but seems to be ok taking that.. for now…
Never had any issues with my daughter with bottle or dummy issues so this is all new to me 😂
I just need to find a new way to settle him in the cot!

Could be be teething? My LO refuses the dummy when her gums are sore but after a little teething gel she's wanting it again x

@twitchybum I mean he is dribbling like mad & everything is going into his mouth but I didn’t think it could be teething. I will try some teething gel & go from there. Thank you x

My son did this at 6 months just decided one day he didn't want a dummy anymore so I threw them all away.

Yep - it's likely this.

You could try different shaped dummies to see if he prefers another one, but likely he's just telling you he wants you - rather than a dummy. Frustrating.

You could settle him with the muslin while sitting there watching him and remove it once asleep?
