Parents of children who wear glasses

Hi,

My son has recently started wearing glasses, we got two pairs using NHS vouchers however I'm starting to regret the frames chosen as im not sure they fit his face. He'll be due for a recheck of his prescription in a few months will he be entitled to another voucher if his prescription changes or how often can you get an NHS voucher? We're based in N.I,
Thanks

I'm in England but DD has had a new prescription every time, usually every 6 months.

Did the opticians not fit the glasses or check they were the right size?

NHS glasses are not fabulous but they are free (mostly), but more expensive ones might have better shapes.

my lo has worn glasses for 8yrs, some pairs have lasted weeks, others months, 1 pair lasted 7 days. We have tried bendy frames, unbreakable frames, plastic frames, metal frames, all sorts! As he got older they last longer.

child glasses get replaced at no cost (thankfully!)

check your employers staff benefits for medical insurance as that covers glasses (wish I did this b4 buying expensive sports goggles). You can get swimming prescription goggles too.

I work in an opticians and he'll get a new voucher issued every time he's due an eye test or if he has an early test for change in vision. He is also entitled to new glasses if he outgrows the current ones and they can be repaired/ replaced if they are damaged or lost with a voucher. I would definitely go back to the opticians if you don't think they are fitting correctly and they can either make adjustments to them to help or replace them for him. Usually only 1 vouchers is issued for 1 NHS pair so the above only applies if it is his NHS pair (should have been chosen on the day he got them) If they are a second pair provided by the store at a discount then there would be a charge to repair or replace those usually.

My son used to get new glasses all the time. His Consultant used to say he never minded giving vouchers for kids glasses, the ones who never wore their glasses and came in with them in as new condition were the ones who bothered him.

When you say they don't fit his face do you mean they are the wrong size or they don't suit him?

Just seen you're based in NI, I assume its the same there as it is in England.
