My little boy who has just turned 20 months old and he barely eats solids.he eats porridge, juice, milk, fruits like oranges and grapes except than that he doesn't eat any other solids at all. If I try he vomits or doesn't touch the food at all and run away.

I have tried offering him different kinds of food but he is not willing to. I have been trying since he was 7-8 months old.I told my gp,health visitor and tried to follow there advice but nothings working out and I am worried for his growth.hes 10kg only.

It sounds like you’re going through a really tough time with your little one’s eating habits. It’s understandable to feel worried, especially when you’ve tried so many different approaches and haven’t seen much progress. It’s good that he enjoys some foods like porridge, juice, milk, and certain fruits, but I can see why you’re concerned about his limited diet and overall growth.

You’ve already reached out to your GP and health visitor, which is a great step. Since you’ve been trying for a while and things haven’t improved, it might be worth asking for a referral to a specialist, like a pediatric dietitian or a feeding therapist. They can offer more tailored advice and strategies that might help your son become more comfortable with a wider variety of foods.

In the meantime, try not to stress too much about each meal. Keep offering new foods alongside his favorites without pressuring him to eat. Sometimes, just having the food available and seeing you enjoy it can gradually make him more curious. And remember, you’re doing your best, which is what matters most. His weight might be a bit lower than average, but every child grows at their own pace, and with the right support, things can improve.

A Paediatric Dietician might be able to help, your HV can refer you or you could try the Food Refusal Service.

hi
I have a 22 months old has met all her milestones : point , wave , understanding, uses two word phrases to get her needs met and starts understanding simple pronouns . No behavioural issues , sleeps through the night and always walk alongside us and very good at following instructions when outside , answer where , who and what’s questions . Food and texture seem to be the problem and has been this way since she was 14 months . She has no other sensory issues like water or clothes but doesn’t like getting her hands dirty . By extension she is reluctant to touch any wet/ slimy food but not my slimy face mask 😆apart from raw vegetables like carrots , cucumber Celery and all fruits including banana but doesn’t touch avocado eggs ( slimy food ) and whenever there is a bit of it on her hands she makes a disgusting face and wants to wipe it off . She on the picky side but loves her pasta bolognese and ricotta and tomatoes , pesto , lentils and sandwiches , meatballs and spinach . Does it sound like texture aversion to you ?
