Has anyone else dropped their baby?

Lamorga · 14/03/2024 22:48

I dropped my newborn baby when she was less than 24 hours old in a hospital setting in an accident that I now realise should have been completely avoidable. I’m fortunate that my baby was completely unharmed but the toll on me as a parent has been huge, and obviously not all accidents have such positive outcomes. I’d love to hear from other parents who have had similar experiences, with the hope that I can work towards raising awareness of preventative measures to help stop these often avoidable accidents from happening. If you would like to help, please fill out the short poll here. If anyone feels comfortable talking about their own experiences, I’d love if we could share any thoughts or feelings in the thread.

Please remember - this is a place of understanding and zero shaming.

I haven’t no, but I just want to say that given the shite post-natal care in the U.K. I expect the incidence of babies being dropped is increasing. Sleep deprived and starved new mothers are left sweltering in noisy wards with little or no help, some of them with catheters and serious birth injuries.

I’m sorry you went through that and pleased your baby was alright.

I don’t remember dropping either baby but it could easily have happened, I was so sleep deprived. I definitely fell down stairs while holding DC1, due to zombie like tiredness.

It was unfortunately exactly like this - I fell asleep, she fell from my arms. I still carry a huge amount of guilt but it’s becoming increasingly clear to me how easily and frequently these things happen, and it’s just not okay. I really appreciate your understanding x

@Lamorga please don’t feel guilty. You were very let down and it was an accident.

Any blame lies elsewhere: with the political and administrative failures to adequately fund and manage post-natal care.

No, never dropped any of mine.

Tripped and fell whilst holding one and hit his head on a cabinet on the way down (would have been better if I'd dropped him tbh but I clung onto him by instinct so took him down with me in a swinging motion and caused far more injury 🤦‍♀️).
Clipped another ones skin in the clip of his baby bouncer once, at days old.
Banged another's head on the car door frame.

Never dropped one but I'm not winning any prizes here!

I tripped and banged by DD head on a sink whilst carrying her.,,
