3 month old baby's vagina is red

I've just been bathing my baby girl and noticed her vaginal opening is quite red. Is this normal?

I'm now panicking I haven't been cleaning her properly. I always make sure to wipe inside after she's done a poo but I normally swipe down between her outer labia with a baby wipe. I've been worrying about opening the lips too much incase I hurt her! But after a particularly messy nappy today I wanted to check she was fully clean and saw the redness.

We are seeing the health visitor next week to get her weighed, should I call my GP before then to get it checked?

Probably nappy rash or thrush. Get yellow metanium from the supermarket and see the GP in the morning.

If she's not sore I'd wait til you see the HV to be honest. Been a long time since I've had a baby to remember how pink they are but it's likely quite normal.

I think it is pretty normal tbh. As long as she is ok in herself I'd wait and speak to the HV.

Thanks for the replies. Yes she seems absolutely fine in herself, she isn't much of a crier so I think I'd definitely know if she was in pain with it. It just shocked me as I hadn't noticed it before.

It actually doesn't look anywhere near as red now she's out of the bath either, the water seemed to make it look much redder for some reason. Will definitely mention to HV but won't panic too much in the meantime!

Try cotton wool and warm water to clean gently between baths.

Don’t use wipes at home, they can irritate them. Cotton pads and water and make sure you open the labia to clean after a poo, you won’t hurt her.
