Split Nights

Hi All. I have a sixteen month old, v good natured baby who we are besotted by. She is in a good bedtime routine, generally goes down at 8 quite easily. She was still breastfeeding at night until about 10 weeks ago. Stopped because I was back to work and she was waking multiple times a night to feed. She actually stopped quite easily but now several nights a week is waking up for 2-3 hours a night in the middle of the night and will not settle. She doesn't seem to be upset when she wakes but is wide awake babbling, clapping etc. DP is great and is probably doing more that his share at the moment. We try to alternate nights however sometimes this isn't possible if for example he is travelling. We both have quite busy jobs and the tiredness is killing us. I feel I am back in the newborn stage again. I'm sure there are loads of threads on this but would appreciate any advice, tips or tricks.

I have a 17m old and have been having split nights for around 5months - it’s also killing us. So I’m following with interest!

internet suggests it’s due to expecting too much sleep in a 24 hour period - which might be the case for us now but certainly not when he was 12-13m old!

we currently have a 2 hour day nap and try for 10.5-11 overnight but I’m now going to trial capping the day nap at 1.5 hours to see if it helps with the split nights….

Thanks for the response it makes me feel a little better to know I'm not alone! Five months of it sounds awful. I actually think it's worse than the newborn phase because at least then I didn't have to get up the next day and go to work! We have tried similar approaches capping naps etc.for two days I even tried not letting her nap all day in the hope she would be so tired she would sleep. None of it seems to work! If anything works for you please check back in and let me know and I will do likewise x
