Nearly 3 year old is a fussy eater. We've done well today so I'm going to channel the good vibes and ask for your meal/snack ideas for your children (fussy kids especially!) Here's how our day went...

Breakfast- porridge with mashed banana and raspberries
Snack- strawberries and a cup of milk
Lunch- chicken soup, humous on rice cakes and a yoghurt
Snack- peanut butter sandwich and a yoghurt
Dinner- tuna pasta (3 pieces 🤦🏼‍♀️) and a piece of apple (1 slice 🤦🏼‍♀️ 🤦🏼‍♀️) cup of milk

I'm very happy about the tuna pasta. He's always refused to try it before.

What do your children like to eat?

@Whatareyoueventalkingaboutrightnow

we had to stay at table until we finished and ate what we are given.

seems you are letting a child rule you.

how odd.

@Tallerandtall I really don't think that is fair. Some kids have food issues and OP did say her DC was a fussy eater.

Btw, I think he had a great day with food. Well done on the tuna pasta!!

My twin niece/nephew absolutely love meals with rice. Anything with rice.

Oh and they'll do anything for broccoli.

I hide vegetables quite successfully. I chop them finely and add them to whatever I’m making. I add butter, cheese and an egg to mash.

We eat together as a family and make mealtimes enjoyable. Our children are never made to eat anything, just encouraged.

We never give snacks. I was brought up to never eat between meals and I’ve just carried it on. A child is far more likely to want to eat, if they are properly hungry.

Thanks,

We never force either. Food is provided but he chooses what he wants to eat and how much.

Can't do without snacks as he's outdoors all the time and very active. I also take flasks of hot food out with us some days because of this so "snacks" are sometimes hot meals in a flask. I don't mind as long as it all adds up to being fairly healthy. I think today was a fair representation of what sort of things he eats and I don't think we're doing too badly.

Unlike a PP I will never force any child to sit and eat food they don't like or want. I don't understand that and think it's cruel. He isn't provided with an alternative but if he only wants 3 bits of tuna pasta then that's what he goes to bed on. And he did.

That's not fussy eating as far as I'm concerned. Try having a child that will only eat about 5 things 🤷🏻‍♀️

Well, as far as I'm concerned there's not a number on fussy eating.

This is one day. He has a set amount of things he eats on rotation. No it's not the worst, yes it could be better, yes things are improving. Hence why I was so pleased he tried tuna pasta. He has never eaten any kind of pasta before.

So on a little high of pride in him I came to Mumsnet for ideas about what everyone else feeds their toddlers and I've got one nasty person telling me my child is ruling the roost and now someone else telling me he's not a fussy eater so... basically what? Pipe down and don't start threads for some ideas and support?

Now that I've double-checked I didn't post this in AIBU, I'll hold my breath for some nicer responses.

I wasn't being unkind - the things you listed are all really healthy & there's a balance of food groups. It's not as if it's coco pops, fruit shoot, crisps, nuggets etc.

I would imagine lots of toddlers eat things like boiled egg & soldiers, baked beans, pasta, mini pizza, cheese on toast, omelette.

I genuinely don't think you realise how lucky you are to have a toddler who eats things like soup, hummous, variety of fruit, porridge.

I've worked hard to get here and a lot of these are recent additions.

Like I say, I'm not interested in whether or not you think I'm lucky based on one day of my child's eating. I started a thread because I was feeling chuffed with my little boy and looking to hear what other meals and snacks go down well with other people's children. I'm just looking for some inspiration in the daily grind of feeding a toddler.

Well hopefully someone else will come along with some brilliant advice for you 🤷🏻‍♀️
