Tooth extraction - 6 year old

Has anyone’s child had a tooth removed around this age?

a baby tooth needs to be removed as it won’t budge and her adult tooth is growing over it. I don’t know what to do as dd is terrified about it! Would be a numbing injection to gum first 😒

DD is older but had some teeth extracted a couple of years ago. I seem to remember several injections but the may have number her gums before the needle went in.

DD had a couple of baby teeth removed to make way for her brace fitting. They numbed the gum first with some gel then 3 injections to make sure the area was fully numb. DD is quite pain sensitive and she managed well with it.

@CadyEastman @MissRainbowBrite ahh I see. Yes out of all of it she is worried about the needle. Thank you! 🙏🏻

It might be worth ringing ahead when she's not around snd explaining that's she's particularly scared of the needle and asking what exactly will happen.

Has a dentist told you that they need to extract the tooth?

my daughter is 12 and had a few back teeth being pushed out of the way by the new ones, it’s taken over a year for the baby ones to fall out and the dentist kept saying at each appointment that they like to wait for them to fall out on their own.(which they eventually did)

SpttyMaldoon · 14/03/2024 21:40

if they have to, I think they can apply a numbing spray before the injection.

@SpttyMaldoon we saw the dentist 2 months ago and they said to come back in 3 months to see if it’s still there and if it was it would be wise to remove it. It’s one of her central incisors so it’s very noticeable. When she was 2 she fell and chipped that one and I’m wondering if the impact just somehow wedged it in a bit more because it’s been wobbly for years and won’t budge. I told her about the numbing cream which seemed to ease her mind a bit

She won't see the needle at all, It will sting though, my DD is 12 and just had some baby teeth removed for a brace. Try to be somewhere you can hold her hand.

It couldn't have been wedged in more because the root dissolves to let the baby tooth come out. My son had to have one removed but he was a bit older. The dentist didn't even tell him about the needle, she distracted him and then did the injection. Because it doesn't hurt as much as you think it's going to, he didn't understand what had happened. The baby tooth was already loose so it was really easy for her to get it out; it wasn't like having an adult tooth removed. I was in the room with him and the whole procedure took less than ten seconds.
