What time is your baby’s bed time ??

Just curious really as to if I’m doing this the right way.
my dd is almost 5 months , sleeps through the night . She goes to bed right after her last bottle , ranging from 7-9pm so earliest she’s in bed for is 7:30 and latest 9:30/10. Sometimes she’ll not go to bed until 11pm and wake ranging from 6/7/8am . Everywhere I read it’s saying from 4-10 months bedtime should be quite early, so around 6-730? She does sometimes but it’s all depending on when she’s hungry for her night feed .. what about you?

My 9 month old goes to bed around 11pm. Always has. We’ve tried to get him to go to sleep earlier but he will not stay asleep until me and his dad go to bed as well and the house is silent. He does sleep most of the morning as well so he’s sleeping enough, his body clock is just a bit off. Obviously we will have to correct this before he starts school but right now it isn’t too much of an issue, and it’s nice not having to get up early every day. I don’t think it’s that important when a baby goes to bed as long as they are getting enough sleep.

Honestly I'm 5 years into this gig now and there's no 'right' time, there's just what's right for you!

Also to the pp, my oldest started reception this year and the bedtimes in his class range from 6pm to gone 9pm. A few kids with younger siblings go to bed after their mother!

"You do you" is the best advice I have. Whatever works for you a family is right for you, and that's the only right that matters!

We always gave ds a bottle when he wanted it rather than to a time. By 5.5 months he had finally started sleeping through. Also he no longer woke up crying due to hunger by this point he just stared at us in the morning which I found so much nicer to wake up to a stiring baby. His bottle was quite late still at 10pm and then he would wake up at about 5am for the day. By 7months we moved his nighttime bottle earlier and it fell into a routine. So dinner at about 7pm and then bottle at about 8pm and then he would play for a while and sleep by 10pm at the latest.

Then at 8 months he start staying awake even later until 11pm so we introduced a bedtime to trial it out. So we put him to bed between 8:30-9pm latest and he’s asleep within minutes. If he hasn’t fallen asleep on the bottle that is. He sleeps until about 7am the next morning. He did at one point at around 9months old sleep from 8pm until 9am but he’s back to waking up around 7am now so it must have been a growth period.

From 8 months he has been on three meals a day so that sort of sets the time a bit. Have dinner at 7ish, bottle at 8ish and bed around 8:30pm. He’s 11 months old now.

10 o clock with me.
She had a late nap at 8pm with me which I guess was the start of her evening sleep.
She didn't have a bed time until 10 months

Ellarose23 · 12/03/2024 18:26

Thanks guys , she has a bottle around now (6pm) sleeps for a couple hours after usually , then another bottle around 10, then sleep for around 11 most nights . Seems to work okay but Google says earlier the better 😩

Ours is only 3 months, but typically about 8pm. She sleeps with us downstairs until we go to bed, has a dream feed at 10:30 / 11, has one night feed and sleeps until about 9am.

The 8pm bedtime is flexible depending on her naps, but it’s never earlier than 8pm.

The later bedtime and ‘lie in’ is working well for us

SuePotato · 12/03/2024 18:37

When dc was that age we did similar, as long as it’s working for you I personally think it’s fine.
They’re now 18 months and go to bed at 6pm, there’s plenty of time to change their bedtime as they get bigger if you want too but I wouldn’t worry about it for now if it’s working for you.
dc still wakes up for a bottle in the night, which some people would hate, but I choose to try and go with the flow. Routines can change so much naturally in a short space of time.

wishIwasonholiday10 · 12/03/2024 19:29

If it’s working for you don’t change anything. Unless she’s waking too late for you I wouldn’t force bed time any earlier. My DD is 20 months and has never gone to bed earlier than 8pm.

climbershell · 12/03/2024 19:45

10 month old, around 7.30/8pm, occasionally 8.30. All depend on her second nap.
2 year old has been more like 8.30/9 the last year. At 10 months she was usually up until 9/10pm

Topseyt123 · 12/03/2024 19:51

Forget Google and just do what works for you. You don't have to have a set time. My three each had a late bottle between 9pm and 10pm and then slept through until about 7 - 7.30am.

Ellarose23 · 12/03/2024 21:52

She had her last bottle at around 6:40 finished around 7ish , I was gonna give her a bottle at 10 but she fell asleep around 830 so I just put her into bed !
how long is too long for a nearly 5 month old with no milk ? To be fair , she’s slept for over 11 hours once so over 12 hours of no milk .. but other than that seems to be thriving ! Just don’t wanna do anything that can cause harm in long run

My one year old goes to bed at 8.00 pm and sleeps for 12-13 hours

Thelazygardener · 12/03/2024 23:16

My LO at just before 5 months would sometimes go 13/14 hours from nighttime bottle to morning bottle. He’s 8 months now and still goes about the same, he’s not overly hungry for his morning milk either. As long as they get ample calories in the day absolutely fine to go as long as they want overnight really.

I think before he started sleeping through I just used to wait until he woke up, usually around 2am for a bottle, I introducted a 10pm feed but gave up as he still woke at 2am regardless for more. Just before 5 months he just stopped waking for milk.

Bedtime between 6.30pm and 7.30pm (occasionally as late as 8pm) depending on last nap.

thank you , she’s just awake for her bottle now , 12 hours without one ! But she had over 800ml of milk in the day so not surprised !

My ds didn't really have a set bedtime or any kind of routine until he was around 1.5 years old!
