Foodborne illness - 7 month old

Three days ago, I was at a party at my Mom's. She did a lot of cooking and cleaning and then kept holding DD's hand before washing hers.
I really thought I'd be OTT if I asked her not to hold DD's hand, but now I'm terrified if she has gotten sick. Is there a chance of getting sick, e.g. getting salmonella like this
Or is this my anxiety talking?

It's your anxiety.
Honestly... in a couple of months your baby will be crawling around and eating bits of carpet fluff, probably the odd woodlouse or spider , or the dogs biscuits!

Babies are tough little creatures and while they need sensible levels of hygiene, they don't need a sterile life! Your baby won't catch Salmonella or anything else.

They WILL get endless colds and germs soon, because that's what happens as they get out in the world, but please please relax.
(mother to four, Granny to one Grin I used to worry horribly with my first... by the third I'd stopped!)

Have you posted before about your anxiety around DD getting ill @Flowermoon90?

You sound very, very anxious indeed. What help are you getting?

Mrsjayy · 11/03/2024 10:09

She was cooking and cleaning, and did not wash her hands afterwards. I'm most probably being paranoid. -__- Thinking somehow her hands were unclean and she transferred something to DD.

Food poisoning symptoms usually come on within 1-2 days of exposure. If it was three days ago and everyone seems fine then any problems are very unlikely.

Cooking and cleaning what? Obviously wash your hands after touching raw meat, but are we talking cutting up an apple or buttering a slice or bread or something, that wouldn't inherently make your hands unclean to need disinfecting before you touch a baby.

I really think you are over thinking and over worrying, has your mum ever had/given anybody food poisoning ?

when we have babies our instincts can go into over drive this is probably what is happening here . I'm sure your Dd is fine.

CadyEastman · 12/03/2024 20:47

How are you all now @Flowermoon90? I'm assuming that your DD was ok? Are you still feeling anxious about the incident?

I lived with my parents for more than 20 years, and never got food poisoning. Considering how I was born premature, she probably took good care of me. :)
But yeah, this is my anxiety talking.

Yeah, she is doing fine. :)
I'm anxious about SOMETHING every day. Yesterday, it was SIDS. Today, it remains to be seen. Parenting like this is so hard ...
