Basket weaving in the modern age- how do we foster multi generational gatherings?

How can we get together in multi generational groups particularly as women? In traditional societies, there were (and are) these spaces where women young and old would get together with a task, basket weaving, jewellery making etc, where young girls could be part of their community and learn from their aunties. We lost the task (in modern society) but also lost the space. How can we recreate it? For creating those positive bonds between women beyond mother and daughter, so our girls can grow up confident, get some guidance on morality and well-being, and having role models. And for older generations to connect with younger women.

I would love to set something up in my community but really struggling with a reason for my friends and their daughters (and other women of all ages) to get together to work on something together, with the biproduct being that sense of belonging and support.

Anyone done something like this? Seen it work or been part of it? What could work?

I live in a small coastal community in Australia, not far from big cities but we have a strong community here so I think many would have the time and interest.

A person from my local community has created a creative group which comes together once a week. It isn't meant to be for women but it's only women who attend. The youngest is in her early 20's and the oldest is in her 70's. It's such a lovely space for being together with women of different ages and backgrounds. She got funding from the council so it's totally free to attend for at least 18 months.

Someone else in the area runs a women's circle once a month. We gather at an allotment, have a fire and put the world to rights.

Both of these are aimed at adults. But just giving you ideas where it has worked/people are doing it :)

Meant to say in the creative group so far she's invited an expert to come every 8 weeks and then we spend the rest of that term leaning together. So far we've done willow weaving, polymer clay and needle felting. We have a list of all the different ideas which we created together and we vote on the next thing as a group. If anyone has a skill they'd like to share they're encouraged to do so. It's a very wholesome space. The funding she got was for adults only, but I'm sure there are others which are suitable for all ages.
