I've always known my son can do this, I've found it quite odd because no1 in my family is this flexible, but I can not for the life of me find anything that matches these photos I going to put up, anyone know?

Sorry they aren't crystel clear photos he wouldn't stand still for a few seconds 🙈😅

Haha my arms are like this..not my thumb but I can touch my thumb to my arm

Cuckoochanel80 · 09/03/2024 21:10

I just thought it was hypermobility in my joints, never caused me any problems personally

It’s hypermobility.

BrutusMcDogface · 09/03/2024 21:10

Hyper mobile?

Cas112 · 09/03/2024 21:11

Jesus Christ the thumb 😳

Strawberrypie33 · 09/03/2024 21:13

@Cas112 tell me about it, he's in no pain and find it's hilarious, I find it gross obviously 😂

My DD has it but she has to be careful as she dislocates her knee very easily.

Strawberrypie33 · 09/03/2024 21:51

@LibbyLemoncake interesting because my knee the right one mostly pops out but I'm not flexible like this, his arms are just so odd but amazing to look at the same time

Hypermobility...and looking at those elbows , I would be rather careful with him... don't encourage him to extend as a party trick.
For most people being hypermobile.. extra flexible, is just that (and handy if you are a gymnast or dancer) BUT... Ehlers Danlos Syndrome is the less nice side...
EDS-ers have hypermobile joints but (there are many types) can also have skin problems (easy bruising, difficult healing with paper thin scars) digestive problems, multiple dislocations and in the rare types ,heart issues.

Most people with EDS have a 'simple' hypermobile type which as kids doesn't usually cause too many problems but can lead to chronic pain later. Both my daughters have EDS.. joints pop out horribly easily and now they are adults they have pain.

Keep an eye on him (and never swing him by his arms between you... not that we ever accidentally dislocated our DD2's elbow twice doing that... pre diagnosis!)

SErunner · 09/03/2024 22:13

Hypermobility. Does he have any other health issues? Worth looking up Ehlers Danlos on the NHS website and just run through the symptoms of the different types and see if multiple in any category ring a bell. Hyper mobility is very common and for most does not cause any issues, but it is a key feature of this group of diseases.

lemmein · 09/03/2024 22:14

Probably just hyper mobility however a family member of mine has similar (and the knee issues) and has nail patella syndrome so might be worth checking out. One of the main signs is the half moons in the nails are triangular.

ShowOfHands · 09/03/2024 22:19

DS is the same. He wasn't in too much pain when little but puberty has been the kicker for both of my dc. They have EDS and their uncle who also has it did a lot of gymnastics and ballet as a child and into adulthood. He's 38 and in agony.

Best to just check out the symptoms in case you suspect it's anything beyond hypermobility.

Strawberrypie33 · 09/03/2024 22:21

@SErunner he has no other issues apart from ear infections from time to time but that's it. Atm I'm not concerned but if he struggles with pain I'll get him looked at

Marfans syndrome?

misssunshine4040 · 09/03/2024 22:58

Hyper mobile joints! My arms are exactly like this. It's caused me no issues.
The only time it's been noticed is by a medical person when I've given blood and put arm out straight.

My legs and hands are the same
