Sleep training high needs baby

Has anyone sleep trained their high needs baby? Not cry it out but 'gentle' methods. I have paid a sleep consultant been trying the suggestions but nothing works. She just gets hysterical when we put her in the cot,not even normal crying but the full blown screaming that your ears start ringing and non stop tears. I have been co sleeping so have been putting her in the cot when she's asleep but she doesn't last long in there and night's are just horrendous so resorted back to co sleeping where she still wakes up hourly. Shushing and patting does nothing. I will try the training in the bed but I'm not convinced it'll work. She's 7 months. Any tips and tricks appreciated!

It depends on whether there is any reason behind the high needs. There isn't always. My daughters high needs were/are due to reflux and allergies. Her sleep has been very poor and at 3 weeks can still have nights where she wakes every 40 minutes because reflux. When he reflux is under control she can sleep through the night but this didn't start until she was 2.

We didn't consider sleep training because I knew discomfort from reflux was contributing to both her high needs nature and her poor sleep. I think if she hadn't had that around 9-12 months we would have looked into methods for improving her sleep. I had a chat about this time with Emily Fox from Fox and moon when she gave a talk at the pnd group I was in and had a brief conversation afterwards but we decided to hold off as she started to get a bit better but then had a set back again such is life.
