Calpol and Nurofen

I was wondering if anyone else had experience of this. My baby is 4 months old. Whenever we've taken her for vaccines where she needs to take Calpol, she projectile vomits. Same thing happens with Nurofen.

What's causing the problem? We're giving it to her with the syringe and have also tried giving her minuscule amounts at a time. She is generally a sicky baby but not too bad recently. However, we know for certain that if we give her either of these, she will definitely projectile vomit. Have asked the health visitor and the nurses at the vaccines but they seem to blame it on too much milk in her tummy, regardless of how far away her last feed was.

It’s probably the sorbitol in them.

Is she vomiting immediately, as in, not swallowing but rejecting the medicine outright (which is very common - my DC1 refused to ever actually swallow medicine when little, but vomited it straight back up, so we had to use suppositories), or is she being sick a little time afterwards (so you know it's definitely had time to sit in her stomach first?)? If the latter, I'd suggest there's something in it, or possibly the heavy texture of it, that's upsetting her stomach. Is she fine after she's brought it up? Are there any other symptoms that would suggest an allergy? Either way, I would get some suppositories prescribed by the doctor (you can buy them online but they're quite expensive)

It’s probably the sorbitol in them.

I didn't know this was something babies would react to. I'll look into it, thanks

@sexnotgenders She's definitely swallowing it. She might take a few swallows but then within a minute she's being sick. I'll ask about suppositories thanks.

She always seems fine afterwards.

I don't give my son calpol for this reason. I get the generic paracetamol from pharmacy first at the chemist.
