Is it normal for 17 month old to not want to nap?

Hey guys! Is it normal for my almost 17 month old DS to not want to nap at all during the day? He usually takes a nap around 2pm for about 1.5 hours. I’ve been trying to make him sleep for the last hour and a half but he’s wide awake and doesn’t even want to lay down! I still have to rock or feed him to sleep, he doesn’t know how to fall asleep on his own yet (I know I have to make him soon). It’s been so long I’ve been trying to make him sleep but he’s wide awake laughing at me and just wants to play. He usually goes to bed at 9ish at night. And wakes up at 9am, so he’s been awake over 6 hours now. Is it okay for him to be awake for 12 hours? That sounds a bit crazy to me. I have no idea what to do

Probably the 18 month sleep regression.

When it was our turn I took him out in the buggy every single day just to get him down (fortunately it was summer!). It passed eventually and he went to sleep in his bed again.

No nap for a child that age would very quite uncommon. Resisting naps, on the other hand, is very normal! They don't want to miss a minute of playtime

Perfectly normal. My eldest daughter stopped napping at nursery from 13 months but would nap at home most of the time (not all the time). My twins are 20 months and there are days when they refuse to nap and I try everything to get them to sleep- even driving in the car doesn't work. I normally try for 45 mins or so and if still wide awake give in and be prepared for grumpy toddlers from 5pm till 7pm bedtime.

Two of my three weren't reliably napping at 17 months. Middle child was a champion napper until in full time school but the others needed pushchair or car by that age. I can't imagine spending that amount of time trying to get a child to sleep though, Just get them up and get on with your day. A lot depends on your circumstances of course, youngest was in the car a lot on school runs so got in some sleeps then .

Mine stopped napping around 17m. It was very annoying!! They did a full 12-13hrs at night so they were getting enough sleep.

Resisting naps is normal but dropping completely at that age isn't. I would just try a bit later in the day and if they really won't nap then move bedtime forward by a couple of hours.

My 3 year old still naps most days. If they've not had a particularly active morning then sometimes skips it, but always naps at childcare still.
