Does your toddler have wide feet?

toddler has G fit feet as measured by clarks

i was going to ask do you put popular brand shoes on them? Nike, vans etc

DS has vans and has walked fine in them seemed to love them but I read they’re awful for wide feet? And the Clark’s lady said just go up half a size for wide feet in ‘normal’ shoes (I assume she meant non made to measure by this)

so I’m confused can DS wear these branded shoes or do I need to get all made to measure etc?? Advice please

basically 2nd time measured (after initial measure at 1 for the soft Clark shoes) and before this as he’s been walking fine I got some non pre Walker shoes but now I’m unsure what he can can’t wear etc

Mine is a G too and I only get G width Clarks for him as I’m too worried anything else would give him blisters! (No ideas if they would though).

DS had wide feet, and shoe shops were always trying to make him go up a size so that they could sell us shoes.

Try the barefoot brands like Bobux, Vivo, Bundegaard.

They all have a wide toe box, and are generally wider to accomodate a more natural spread of the foot.

Yes, DS has had Vivobarefoot trainers a couple of times. And Pediped sandals.

My toddler is also a G width but I was worried about hurting his feet so bought the Clarks ones. I went onto Vinted to buy his "spare" pair. He hasn't had to use them yet but thinking about it their feet grow so quickly and I looked carefully at the photos to see how worn they looked before buying - now they've arrived it looks like they've hardly been worn so they're probably fine for everyday. I know that Next also do wide fittings for older kids/DC1 also has wide feet so I get school shoes there as they're cheaper than Clarks but I hadn't thought to look for toddler shoes there perhaps I should!

My toddler has size G feet and I size up on shoes. I find a lot of Clarks shoes to be quite expensive and feel I can get other brands a lot cheaper. If the shoe is too tight then my little one will walk on her tiptoes so if I size up even half a size then she walks a lot better. She hasn’t had any blisters and hasn’t complained about her feet.

My 3.5 year old has very wide feet but we are very broke. I size up supermarket/charity shop shoes and she's never had a blister or any discomfort as far as I can tell! Clarks shoes are like organic fruit and veg in my mind... wish we could afford, but we can't and that's that!

Peppapog263 · 29/02/2024 21:03

Oh and I do only buy my Clarks shoes from Vinted!

Talipesmum · 29/02/2024 21:14

Mine both had wide feet as toddlers - one wide one very wide. I would always get Clarks or other makes like geox that do width fittings. But when their feet got bigger and grew out of Clarks trainers size I had to venture into wild world of normal shoes. We found Nike revolution were good for a wider toe box. Basically you need to get good at checking the fit. Feel down the sides, check for bulges, run your thumb over the top etc. Get used to figuring out which styles and shapes will work and which won’t.

ladygindiva · 29/02/2024 21:44

2 of my 3 DC have wide feet. I buy Clarks only pretty much and found vans and converse both impossibly tight on them. I actually find Boden are fab, always pick up pairs in the sale.

peanutbuttertoasty · 29/02/2024 21:46

Bobux

Synergies · 29/02/2024 21:50

Yes extra wide here too - plus a very high arch.

Clarks wide or extra wide are good. And yes always size up slightly to create more room for the foot.

Annoyingly sometimes the riptape isn't long enough on wide fits so definitely check that!

My son was an H at 12 months! His feet were practically square. Now at four they have slimmed down to an F but I still only put him in Clarks or Start Rite shoes and always get them properly measured. (I've also got very wide feet unfortunately, shoe shopping is a nightmare!).

Nyxxie · 29/02/2024 21:57

Had my 12 month old's feet measured at Clark's for the first time this week and they said he is an H width. I didn't realise until I looked it up later that that is very wide! I've always had narrow feet so not had to look for wider shoes before. Is it going to be a nightmare to get shoes for him??

TheBeeb · 29/02/2024 21:57

Yep both my boys have H width feet!! Eldest has slimmed down enough that some supermarket trainers will fit him now but he's still a G fit. Sketchers have always fitted him but not adidas or Nike.

WeightoftheWorld · 29/02/2024 22:04

My 2yo is a H! He has a range of issues with walking though so he wears custom made Piedro orthotic boots from the hospital, but also Clarks trainers when needed.

Mumaway · 29/02/2024 22:08

Clarks Outlet or Startrite outlet online is great for unusual fits. Some brands come up wide (Reebok and Geox IMO) and some narrow (Salomon). I think M&S also do some wider fitting shoes that are marginally cheaper than Clarks or Startrite.

seenomore1579 · 29/02/2024 22:23

My DD started walking a few months ago and has wide feet, after trying a brand from a local independent shoe shop which was too narrow for her, we tried geox which seems a lot better, I think might stick with that in future.
They were £35 in the sale.

Justyouwaitandseeagain · 29/02/2024 22:24

we always went with Clarks but recently switched to startrite and found these much better quality and more robust
