I've seen 4 different doctors and no one knows what this is . I've seen three at my local centre and one in A&E this morning got sent home with antihistamine.
He's had antibiotics for a week ! Still getting new sores !

Poor sausage! That's what I look like after a flea bite, it just spreads and weeps and gets bigger and bigger. I was prescribed a weird calcium cream at university that healed them up in the end.

Waiting for a call back from doctors .

It looks just like when I had impetigo

Kellymama · 05/03/2024 08:43

We've had some progression. Yesterday we had an appointment and two more doctors came to have a look ( we've seen 8 in total now) they thought impetigo or staph infection, took a swab, took photos for dermatologists and gave antibiotics.
This morning I've had a call saying the dermatologists believe it's a rare form of eczema in children called discoid eczema.
Now we're starting creams 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Poor poppet, that looks so sore! My DD2 has discoid eczema, and we also went all round the houses getting it diagnosed because it is quite rare and does look very, very fungal (hers was swabbed multiple times, 3 different antifungals, 1 antibiotic just in case, etc.).

The good news is that since we've known what it is and found an emollient that suits her, it's almost perfectly controlled with just emollient (the exception is her nappy area, which I expect will resolve once potty trained, but is still pretty well controlled). You want to use the steroid cream for a couple of days after the redness is gone to make sure the underlying irritation is also gone, and then make sure they've given you instructions for tapering down the steroid use – you don't want to go from using it every day/twice a day to nothing.

Which emollient works is quite individual, so don't get discouraged if you have to try a couple. Use lots. DD2 gets full-body emollient twice a day, nappy area and any other area looking iffy at every nappy change, and her face if she has a cold (the snot irritates it) some extra times besides that – and that's not extreme.

Thank you for your message and advice !☺️
I just feel so relieved that we're finally being taken seriously after so many appointments!! I just couldn't understand how no one knew what it was !!

Glad you've finally found out what it is. That's what my daughter has but I couldn't remember the name 🙈 just that hers was triggered by an allergy of some sort. In fact her identical twin also has it but she hasn't had a big flare up since she was a toddler. I had been meaning to send you some pic's but I would have to log onto laptop to do that I think as I can't send PM on the app? It's definitely worth getting some eumovate in too for small flare ups, It helps massively for my daughter.

Poor love! I caught impetigo from my sister when we were kids and mine looked like this, I had a big patch exactly like this on my inner thigh.

skkyelark · 09/03/2024 22:40

How is the wee one getting on, @Kellymama ?

Kellymama · 10/03/2024 07:21

So pleased to see the update. Keep up with the treatment. Hope little one is completely better soon.

skkyelark · 11/03/2024 21:01

Oh, that's good, it's such a relief when something finally works! Hope those patches are completely healed soon and the emollient keeps new ones at bay.
