Baby won’t eat

Been weaning baby (now 7 months) for a month. He absolutely won’t touch anything from a spoon and just plays with finger foods. He looks interested when we are eating and looks like he’s practising chewing but pop it anywhere near his mouth and he’ll he bursts into tears and purse his lips

We are very cheerful the whole time, smiling, mimicking chewing and laughing.
Has anyone has similar and successfully managed to wean their baby? Worried about him eventually not getting enough nutrition.

They’ve been ebf (bottle refuser) and I’m desperate to get him onto some form of solids/bottle/cup as I have to go back to work at 9 months and I’m scared of him having no access to food/drink.

He's still very young. I wouldn't worry yet. Keep offering food (ideally from your plate with him sat on your lap to take the pressure off and to save wasting food that doesn't get eaten). He'll get there.

I wouldn't worry too much at that age. Even if he was eating he probably wouldn't be eating much.

Try getting your lunch and making it food he can eat, and sit on the floor with him while you eat it (maybe put a picnic blanket or something down). Don't try and feed him, just eat while you play with him, and see if he comes over and tries any. Let him take any bits from your plate that he wants.

My daughter was 13 months when she engaged with weaning!
She was also a bottle refuser and I had to stop breastfeeding at 10 months. We had an assessment to see if she could cope without breastfeeding or formula but taking 2 days to finish a sachet and half of it still going in the bin and a few peas were not sufficient especially as she stopped gaining weight. We had to go cold turkey to get her to accept a bottle and only did it because it was imperative I stopped breastfeeding.
7 months is so early into weaning there's lots of time to get food to click. My daughter went to nursery 2 days a week from 9 months and she had a good feed before and after nursery and accepted 0-5oz of formula over two bottles. Even though she would try to backflip out of our arms to escape the bottle she would sometimes accept it from them.
